My muffler is looking bad so I want to (heat) paint it. Does anyone know the factory color it came in? It looks as though this one was originally silver (or plated)? Does mine look original (24,180 miles showing) for a non US version? Thanks, Bob R. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Not quite sure...but I painted mine with flat black exhaust manifold paint. By the way, do you have a P/N for the aluminum shield just in front of your muffler?
It doesn't look bad at all. It's just showing the hot spots, that's all. Yes, Bob. That's the way the OEM muffler looks with that kind of milelage. I wouldn't get involved with painting it. The paint will ultimately peel at the hot spots. Please leave it original. Barry
It may sound crazy, but you can actually clean up the factory muffler, and it looks pretty nice! I used a combination of a scouring powder called Barkeeper's Friend, and carb cleaner applied with a 3m stroping pad. It came out very nice. It removed the surface rust and cleaned it up while preserving the natural gold-tinted finish of the metal. In a nuthsell, it looked clean and nice, but still completely factory.
I had removed my muffler for other reasons. Since it was already out, I had ordered some flat black exhaust manifold paint from Eastwood. It's been on for ~ 3years and not a sign of peeling or discoloration.
