From the URL, I have interpreted that A) the ABS pump runs when a low pressure set point is reached and the system needs to be re-pressurized, B) When the low pressure state is experienced, the ABS light and the brake warning light are on until system pressure set point is reached, which I interpret as C) the ABS light and brake warning light comes on only when the pump is running.

This is consistent with my car, that the lights come on and the pump starts, and the lights go off when the pump stops. The URL also says "For reference you should be able to press on the brake pedal from 5-8 times without the Hydraulic Pump Motor running. If this is not that case you are due for an Accumulator soon."

However, I would like to check if your car has the ABS pump running when there are no lights on the dash? Could it be that on your car the pump start set point is at a higher pressure than the ABS/brake warning light set point? Or are the points the same?

We seem to be getting from 5 to 13 pumps of the pedal before our 348 hydraulic motors are running, based on input to this thread so far...which seems normal per that URL.

Sounds about right, since we are in the range, but my concern if the pumps should be running *without* the lights coming on? PAP and I are experiencing a situation with the lights coming on when the pumps run.

I think for future reference, it would be good if anyone has found a source for the accumulator by itself instead of the whole ABS pump assembly. It looks like there are many cars that use this pressurized Teves system and accumulators seem to be available separately. However, the size and shape and specifications of the accumulator for the 348/355 may be unique, or the thread at the coupling may be unique, so I'd be wary of using one meant for another car. Has anyone sourced the accumulator separately?

I'm under the impression that you have to depressurize the accumulator before changing it out (ironically), lest it be a personal safety hazard.

...anyway, they are available aftermarket. 348s use the Ford Thunderbird SC ABS system (1991-ish).

I work with and replace accumulators at work all the time. Yes, you have to release the pressure in them when you replace them.

There would be a way to do this on the 348 accumulator. Has anyone got a pic of one? :):)

Speaking of which, I'm about to replace all of my rubber brake lines with braided stainless steel lines. Anything special that I need to know to do this?

17mm and 14mm flare nut wrenches, plus speedbleeder, yes?!

Prior to my track time (and wet skidpad time!) this past weekend, I turned the ignition key to On/II while my Motive pressure bleeder was pumped up to 14psi.

On my first wheel/caliper, I had to press the brake pedal a few times before fluid really started flowing through the bleed nipples. Not neccessary to pump the brake pedal again for fluid flow on the other wheels...just kept the Motive between 11psi and 14psi and there was no other issue.

Tested out the bleed on the track and skidpad...mondo good! Me likey!
