thanks... but have been there a few times already.

I dunno about all of the overly critical hatred here for the California but I think it's a neat little Ferrari. I guess there is just no pleasing some people. Ferrari made the car deliberately and on purpose. It's a very faithful modern idiom of the old school California Spider from the 60s.

I believe F149 for a name is a strategic blunder. Which would you rather have? A F149 or an F355 - F355 sounds bigger and better right - I'll take the F355!!!!. Now if they had called it the F399 they wouldn't have cratered their F430 but the number is larger than 355 and it plays off the 599.

But then I'm an engineer not a marketeer - I appologize in advance if i have offended anybody.

I don't know if it will have both modes, that is up to Ferrari. Paddle shifters are basically automatic anyhow... the main reason for the dual clutch is what I gave, not so there are "2 modes".

Love it or hate it to a tee. Personally? Hate it. Give me a 599/575/550/Superamerica first. Please.

I dunno, Wiliam, that's how a lot of sports car designers today treat their body designs. You have to move forward as well. I'm loving the beautiful flow of the curve from front to rear, giving the eye some movement. And I like the beefy chunky rear quarters of the F149. Try to accept the car on it's own terms. No one is forcing you to buy it.

Maybe it is a leftover Ken Okuyama design.

Put the Fog Lights in the

Oh lord, this picture gives me headaches and cramps.

After staring at the design all day I decided I really don't like it much. It's really a shame because this car has such wonderful proportions and shape. The F149 looked very promising from all the spy shots. Unfortunately fussy details like that frugly crease around the headlamp and the vent crease on the side profile made a real mess of the overall design. It's quite depressing actually because I was really looking forward to the first hardtop convertible Ferrari to be a stunner.

The front end looks like an angry Mazda Miata with an Italian grill. The headlights are so tall it makes the front end of the car look like a compact wagon like the Toyota Fit. I have no idea what they were trying to convey with the headlight crease. The side profile is messed up by the side gill and the crease that follows. It's the same bodyline that gave me headaches on the Hyundai Genesis coupe. It's a very curvy car interrupted by angular vents on the hood, front bumper, side sills and the rear. The door handle, rear brake vent and pop-up taillamp design are by now trite and almost 'default' on every modern Ferrari. Half of my car friends think it looks Japanese and the other half think it looks Korean. (Tiburon, Genesis...) It's really not a bad looking car, in fact it looks pretty good - but that's not good enough for a Ferrari. Ferraris are supposed to be either drop dead gorgeous or unique and bold in execution. Ferrari designs are supposed to make a statement, not float with the masses.

While I see the the argument of 'modern version of the 250 California,' the F149 doesn't compare at all to the clean line and presence of the classic. I wish Ferrari had designed a hardtop convertible sport FR from the ground up instead of having some strategic board meetings discussion 'It would be profitable to revive the famous 250 California.' There are At this point the Mercedes SL500 in the garage is going to stay awhile longer.

Ok, enough rant. I have to go to Starbucks to calm myself down.

That 250 is beautiful. Love that contrasting aluminum side duct... might look nice for the California's fender duct (photoshop anyone?)

I guess beauty really is in the eye of the beholder. I can't see how some of you people think this is ugly? Do you just want the same car they made in the 1960s?

The side curve front to back is elegant:

It looks far too japanese and way too cute. The design understates the proportions and make it look like a small roadster, chunky miata comes to mind. Epic FAIL on Ferrari's part.
