OOPS! I was straightening up my workshop after traveling for 2 wks & found JDubya's mirror base where I'd put it 'to be safe'. It was safe all right, safe enough that it slipped completely out of my admittedly ageing mind(early Alzheimers maybe?). My apologies. :-{ I'm on it now tho. It's just large enough so that I had to make a custom box for the mold. Finished the box today. Still need to mount the base in clay & pour the 1st mold half. I should have the 1st part by late next week.
No problem Verell. I'm not in a hurry. I acutally found another one the other day after moving a bunch of stuff around on my way-too-cluttered work bench. It's one of the aluminum ones too!

No problem with the mirrors now. I fixed them with some glue and they seem to be alright. There was no fault or foul on your part. I'm still happy with the trade. Currently I'm on a cross country trip in our motorhome. So I'm a little slow in answering stuff. take care - b
Verell, Are what you need the same ones you sold me awhile back? If so I'll send you those and you can use them to make new molds. I have not installed them yet. I know molds of copies are not necessarily the best but they are your copies (highly accurate repos I am sure, knowing your work) and they might get you back in biz. Let me know if you want them. Just got home, am trying to catch up on eMAIL, PMs, etc. after 5 days traveling(again). Will resume work on the mirror base mold tomorrow AM. Mark, Thanks for your kind offer to lend me back your mirror end caps. You're quite right, the process I use is accurate enough so that even 3rd or 4th generation parts & molds would be very hard to tell from originals. I'm always trying to improve my products. In this case, I still have the molds & parts I used as patterns for the molds. They're still in quite good shape. However,I'm trying to locate mirror end caps that are in even better shape than the ones I'm currently producing/using for mold patterns. Especially the trapezoidal caps, the ones I was able to borrow to make the mold from had some minor screwdriver marks where they were pried out of the mirror base at some time. I haven't had a customer complain tho, so possibly I'm being a bit anal.
I'm in the process of claying up the part to pour the mold's top half. I have a question about the mirror mounting. Inside the base there's a cylindrical area with 2 screw holes. The part would be significantly stronger if I could fill in the rest of the base, just leaving a cylinder accessing that part of the base open & cast the rest of the base as a solid piece. Or does something have to fit up into that large open area in the base? Any chance there's a picture showing how the base mounts to the car door? Would be very helpful right now.
Took another look & figured it out, there's a long flat piece on the door that fits inside the base. One end hooks into the base, the other is held by a set screw in the base. Now I have to find some threaded inserts for the set screw.
I just got back from a long trip and the Ferrari is in the hangar. Now I don't have to go take the mirror apart because you have figured it out. Thanks for letting us know. I appreciate that. I finally glued the parts together with some epoxy. It works fine now, although I'm reluctant to trust the mirror to stay on the car for awhile. Ferrari Parts Exchange, (916 454-3240), in Sacramento has the tear drop mirrors in stock for about $70 bucks. When I originally bought the car it only had one mirror on it. I got the right side mirror from them. Now that I have the square mirrors I like the driving experience more. The mirrors are interchangable from side to side. Bob Wassam
