What is the device in the middle of the picture (1 vacuum hose, 2 air hoses, is a diaphragm, kinda looks like a fuel pressure regulatorm, and just over the solenoid valve) on either side of the MOTRONIC 2.5 inlet manifold - they are not Air bypass motors as these are only available in this position on Motronic 2.7 engines. These are not electrically driven, but vacuum driven. The vacuum is directly off a nipple on the inlet manifold housings - NOT off the solenoid valves.

I enclose the schematic for the Motronic 2.5 standard inlet manifold and I cannot see these there. Can anyone help me understand what they are? They are BOSCH devices and clearly serve a purpose to let in additional bypass air (coming from the air inlet pipe and going to a pipe located after the throttle butterfly housing - ie. directly into the manifold area) if there is a low vacuum. The car does have bypass valves, idle adjustment screws and air compensation solenoids, so why does it need this additional device?

    Thank to all, Marco

On the 2.5, they're in a different location-under the intake, IIRC

Looks like it could be a 1st gen idle control valve?
