What benefit would Roger Yasukawa have had if he withdrew his lap when he was on the bubble?

My guess is he would move up in the line to qualify since time was running out? Anyone know?

None. The team was about to make a mistake with that move. If he is bumped and has any of his three attempts for the day left, he does not need to withdraw. It's already been done by the bump. If he withdrew prior to Lazier completing his 4 lap run and then Lazier hit the wall, he was screwed. Once you withdraw, you're out and he would have thrown his spot away and maybe not had time to regain it.

Then why do it? There has to be some reason that had an advantage over being in the bubble position.

As I said above, the team was about to make a mistake. They realized it and stopped before they did. The TV crew also pointed out the mistake as it was taking place. Even crew chiefs are human...
