Project 348 in Georgia

First, let me state that I don't know anything about the car, the seller, etc.

While surfing, I came across the following Craigslist ad:

I have magnificent Ferrari 348 for sale as a project car. The car is from 1992 with 25 K miles on it. This car has been in a minor accident and is sitting on my driveway. I bought it as a project car but need money now for something else. I have purchased all the parts necessary to fix it and they are available.Please call for more details or to request pictures of the vechicle.

I emailed him and have pictures. I wouldn't pay over 20 for it personally. Especially since you can't even have a PPI done on the car in its current state. Actually, on second thought I would do what I did and walk away...

That's some serious looking "minor" damage... I love the white though.

If the only thing that is busted is the front bumper, then that is an EASY fix. All you would need is a good refabricated bumper (about $1200 =/- $100), 8 nuts undone, the busted bumper removed, and the new bumper put back on. 1 hour TOPS! Of course any painting that would need to be done to match the current color would need to be done before the replacement. Looks like you'll need a fog light too.

But you need to make sure that it runs and IF the engine out major has been done. Even if the major hasn't been done that is something you can do your self for around $1500.

 

Does it have a salvage title?

 

Can people do a nationwide search on craigslist or is it only city by city?

 

VIN?

 

I think it's like $800 for the missing fog light - adds 50% to the cost of fixing it : )

 

Offer 23K if it runs and drives. Bumper/fender/lights ez to replace. White is ez color to match! Hope someone here gets it, Scott

 

if you can find it... I actually have a used but not broken RH fog light that would fix this car perfectly. $800 is about what I'd want for it.

Ok, a couple answers. First off, crazedlist.org is your friend. It's how I bought my recent 348 from some guy in denver.

Second off, this car is a turd. Look how long its been sitting outside first off. Second, the whole car needs a repaint. you can see huge scratches on the door. The rear right rotor is rusted too. It does have a salvage title too. There is no way to find out what sort of condition its in really without the PPI and as I've learned from my last two PPI's, those can't even be trusted completely. I don't know why you would want to get into this car for 23k with a salvage title, spend the 6k on a major service (unless you can really do it yourself), spend another 8-10k on a repaint, 1500 on the front bumper, and more $$ for the cv joint axle. There are good 348's out there for 40k without all the headaches.

 

The ad says he has already purchased all the parts to fix it... if they're included in the price, then paint and a major would be all you would have to pay for I guess... and alot of work.

 

I agree with DrewStoddard about the cost of the car with repairs exceeding the cost of a good condition 348 elsewhere.

Except, that is, for someone who does their own work, maybe already has some parts laying around (or can source cheap parts), or has connectons where work can be done cheaply. I see ricers and lowriders all the time with an obvious 100k in their cars and wonder how they afford it, and then find out the owners work for paint shops or body shops and trade services with mechanics. (One of my best friends is a physician and got a free nose job that way...)

The more white Ferraris I see (even in photos) the more I like them. Even when covered in leaves and smashed up they look good.

 

What a shame, I really hate to see a 348 or any Ferrari in this state.

 

That is code for: 'I bought this at a salvage auction thinking I could put a couple grand in it and have a nice Ferrari... thousands in parts later (with thousands left to spend), I have come to the realization the words "project" and "Ferrari" should never be in the same paragraph, let alone the same sentence.'

Yes you can. In google put in the item you are searching for with the tag added site:craigslist.org example "Ferrari 348 site:craigslist.org"
Unfortunately you will also get lots of expired listings, but it is quicker than jumping all around the Craigslist home page.

Thanks. That's just proof that Amazon and eBay sux...for such an awful Craigslist homepage to become so popular (can't search nationally on it, have to use Google to make Craigslist work).

Online newspapers blew it, as well. The bar was set pretty low for classified ads online.
