There is nothing to prevent anyone from selling a car into Europe other than finding the buyer there. And yes current market for a Boxer in the US is in the 150k range and a Bora is in the 50k range.
A car located in the US being advertised in Europe would be a tough sell IMO. Importing and shipping costs alone would be well over $5k not to mention the hassle. From what I have noticed, it is only the high dollar cars that make trips overseas when they sell. It is not as much of an issue or bargaining point when one is dealing with a $500k+ car.
From an economics standpoint this statement makes no sense to me. From a logistics and hassle level I agree. That being said, if I can get an additional 30K for a car by shipping it to Europe first I'd want to look into that. You'd need someone you could trust that wouldn't swallow all the profit. Bob S.
Thanks guys for all the help. Can anybody help me find more information about a particular car? It's a 1977 Bora, gold/brown exterior. I don't know if I should post the serial here (I can PM it to whomever wants it, but I'd rather not post it since the car is not mine). I'm helping my girlfriend find out more about this car, value on the market, history, etc. Thanks a lot!
It's is an unusual color for a Bora to start with, especially one that late in production. I wouldn't be surprised if someone knew the car, but the only way to confirm is with a serial number. Joe
That is very interesting. Are these later cars less desirable than earlier ones? I'll try to see if I can post some pictures. Anywhere else that I can look/research the history/etc.? Thanks a lot!!!
Here's a link to the Bora Registry. It's not much for histories but I will give you some insight into the car. http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Garage/6743 Joe
It's full of errors in the registry portion. #1044 is not copper colored. It's more of a champagne color and the interior is a very unusual light reddish brown color but I can't recall the the factory moniker for it. I liked it a lot and it's the only one I've seen like that. Back in the very early 1990's it was a very stunning looking original car. It took a first place at the Maserati Days in Monterey which later became the Concourso Italiano event. Originally it resided in the SF bay area and was sold to a person in the state of Washington in the late 1980's. At that time it had been surreptitiously fitted with a NOS system which was subsequently removed. During the late 1980's/early 1990's Italian car bubble it set a sales record for Bora's at over $100K. I wonder where it is today and what the condition is? Bob S.
Bob, Apparently #1044 and #1034 are the same color. Check out the Cozza picture, you can see both cars listed although the shot isn't of a high enough resolution to make out exactly what the name of the color is, it is clean enough to tell that both cars are the same color. Joe
The car was in 2002 with Jim Sawson from Columbus, Ohio! He offered it for sale, asking $$ 65,000 Ciao! Walter
Here is 1034, exterior and interior. Best. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Looks like a nice original car from the pictures. If you get it consider bringing it to the Maserati Owners National Meet next month. www.italiancarsatpocono.com
That looks like the same exterior color, I wouldn't call it copper but hey. But the interior color looks different. That might just be the photograph, the monitor or my eyes ... Bob S.
Yup, I agree it looks like "Oro Longchamp" ??? but the interior I can't make out even though they do look to be the same there as well. #1034 looks like a different interior color in those pictures, very orange, but I suspect that in person it looks the same. In person I thought it was quite handsome. But back to the original question ... What's a fair price? Need to know more about the mechanical condition, what's been done, mileage and more shots of the mechanicals. Plus, are those pictures a fair representation of the entire exterior or are there paint cracking issues (probable) in some areas. Bob S.
That would be Gary Simion of Seattle Washington who indeed won best of show with 1044 at the time an exceptional Bora. Hi name was engraved on the Clubs perpetual Trophy which was later stolen by the French guy with the Ghibli Spyder (he never returned the trophy) Gary fell on hard times and yes sold the car to a Jim Swanson only the last name was not swanson but something else. I remember Gary walking around the Quail Lodge dinning room after dinner and the Awards presentation with the giant 2 foot tall bottle/Magnum of Monet Champaign pouring drinks for those gathered, having a really great time. Later that night, as Janet and I were motoring back to the Holiday Inn Resort in our Ghibli Spyder putting along at a safe 50 MPH or so, we saw Gary in that gold Bora go blasting by us at well over 100MPH!! swerving as he passed us and swerving into the oncoming lane as his tail lights dimmed in the distance. We thought at the time that he would be soon dead or in jail. But of course he made it back to the hotel and was in the bar on his second drink when we arrive. Those were the days eh fellas. FGM
#1034 looks a lot like that one Frank. So where is #1044 today? Was that the "sprinklers on during dinner" year? ;>) Bob S.
