So today i decided to attend a function that was put on by Shell in conjunction with Ferrari to launch a new Shell fuel in New Zealand. Shell kindly put on after launch drinks and nibbles as well as having a few guest speakers including a chap who worked for Ferrari for 30 years during the "Enzo years" (sorry i cannot remember this chaps name, I'm shocking with names ) He spoke in English with a very strong Italian accent and had some interesting things to say about the relationship that has been formed between Shell and Ferrari over the years and the impact this has had on the reliability of the Ferrari race engines and how this filters through into their road cars. He seemed and all round nice guy.

My drive up (150kms) was uneventful and the last 30 or so kms were very slow due to peak hour traffic, the evening function was pleasant and as always there were plenty of people to talk car stuff with and even a couple of fine young ladies to discuss the colour schemes of various cars with.

The drive home was always going to be good, clear motorway, crisp cool air and a Ferrari, the recipe for a great drive, well about 45kms into the trip the main highway had been closed and i was diverted off to a nice flowing back road that i had not driven before, following a truck for a few kms the rain started to poor down (hay Robbie, these things don't melt in the rain...... :p) finally a clear part of the road opened up and i was let loose, without talking speed i was definitely finding the limit of grip and the breaks on these things are just stunning. Then next 15-20kms of back road detour did not last long enough but it was a blast, then i returned back to the motorway and continued south, the rain was now really pouring and i decided to take her easy, turned the stereo on and kicked back, it was at this point i realised this is the longest trip i have done in my 355 alone, and then i got to thinking of all the times i had travelled this road just to look at Ferrari's through the window of the showroom, like a lost puppy dog i would stand and stare, now here i am driving this road in my very own Ferrari after having been at a function for Ferrari owners and talking amongst friends that also own Ferrari's. This is truly a dream come true for me. For as long as i can remember i have wanted to own a Ferrari, now and again i get a shiver when i realise this is no longer a dream and that my friends is priceless, "to hell with timing belts and sticky plastic, this is pure pleasure" i thought to myself.

    Life is truly good!

You're absolutely right, damn the headers, valve guides, tensioner bearings, etc. This is the best car ever, and from a young 355 guy to another young 355 guy on the complete opposite side of the world, yes, we are definitely living our dream. When I was a kid (4-10 yrs. old) I had recurring dreams consisting of me driving various exotic Italian cars through my neighborhood. The cool part was that the cars were transparent
and I could pass through anything, like a ghost, able to drive as fast as I wanted to and not crash. 16 years after the dreams stopped, they finally came true (95 GTB Nero/Tan, and she's a beast).

Congratulations, hold onto her and treat her nice. :)

    Thank you :)

My friend, thank you for your kind words, your experience is not to distant from mine, my car's were not transparent though, but i never did crash in my dream(s).
I love your car, my first Ferrari was 355F1 Nero Daytona over Nero, i would have loved for it to be just like yours, F355 Nero tan, such a stunning colour combo, your photos are quite often my desktop.

Enjoy your beautiful car in the very best of health my friend. :)

Thanks Brudda! I think it's really cool my images are on someone's desktop all the way in New Zealand!!! I am honored...

Funny, I was after a Nero/Nero, but the Nero/Tan won my love at first sight. Here's my sweetie, (reposts) let's see some pics of yours!!

P.S. Gracias for posting this thread, it reminded me of the amazing machine I have sitting in my garage, sadly awaiting exhaust-manifold replacement. Can't wait to get 'er back on the road again. And you, too, enjoy in good health.

P.P.S. Since these photos were taken, I've replaced the faded floormats with Lloyd's mats, with the Cavallino and the Ferrari text, and they are a perfect match color-wise. As far as I know, there is only one source for the Lloyd's mats (pre-Ferrari intervention) and though they're pricey ($450 USD) I still think they are a deal for the quality combined with the rarity. Had to get that out there.

    Cheers, Hudson

Thank you for the complement. These are however intended as words of humble thanks. We are all so very blessed.

Dude! Your photos are so sweet, they never get old.

Here are a few of both of my cars, they fail in comparison to you awesome photo's. Good luck with getting her back on the road, i spoke to my service tech tonight about manifold problems and he is of the opinion that repairing/replacing the pipes on the manifold is the best way to go, drop them into a exhaust shop that deals in high performance exhaust systems and they should be able to cut out the damaged tubes and hand make new ones for a fraction of the cost of replacement manifolds, but i digress, now back to what amazing toys we are so privileged to own and care for.

The cars look great!! I must say that your shots of the Nero in the graffiti-laden 'hood are among my favorite 355 images ever. The ultimate juxtaposition. I remember commenting on these a while back, and it's still cool. Good stuff, let's see some more! Your shots look better than 90% of the images posted here, so keep at it.

Oh yeah, I have some Fabspeed ex. manifolds sitting in my studio, just trying to get the car into the shop. I don't have a lift or a workable garage otherwise I'd do the install myself. Also doing brake pads and CV boots. Thanks Ricambi!!

James, were you able to take the Nero's wheels and put them on your Giallo in the swap? If so, nice maneuver.

Thank you Pap, it is good to hear life in the Isa is all good, playing with life size dump trucks must be fun! I bet you have spanners that are taller than me ;) Now go drive your 348 and think of all those time you wish you could drive a Ferrari, it really does warm the heart.

Thank you Oz, we are very fortunate. And you my friend are THE man ;)

Oz and Pap, I thought of you guys last night, see pic attached. Hay Oz, what say I do a deal on the NZ Goth machine...... 94 Spider, yeah I know, 355 spiders did not come out till 95, this is pre production, build plate says 94. Unfortunately not tidy enough for my taste.

    Thank you :)

After a long day in the OR I get to read a post about my true other passion.
I was just informed that one of our great ophthalmic surgeons was killed in a parachute accident this weekend and was feeling kind of down but your post put it in perspective. He lived his life fully and did what he loved and was lucky to to be able to do it.

    Well said my man.
I will frame your post in my garage now that I have bought the car back after a 23 K valve job/ clutch etc. I thought that it would be stupid to continue with a car that would require such expensive care, but I found myself lost without her.
I grew up near Ferrari of Manhattan where my mom would park me while she shopped in the area. The salesmen entertained me wtih the history of Ferrari and the cars made for a great playground to dream of becoming the next Phil Hill. I have always dreamed of driving one and have many notebooks full of drawings from school. I truly am fortunate to have the ability to keep a 355 GTS
It has been involved in many FCA NER events when I was at Yale where kids just had the time of their lives riding and dreaming just like I did as a kid
Life is truly good especially when the road allows for a clear run

Thank you Shachar, you have a great looking GTS. I have a charity event next month that I am really looking forward to, I think it will be such a buzz for the kids to see and ride in these amazing machines. One of the things I love about my car is its ability to make others smile and brighten peoples day, this is part of the reason I drive mine so often.

Enjoy your car in the best of health my friend! :D

I do, badly. I missed the 50th Ann. Reunion at the school last month which I was trying to get to, but tickets are so expensive from here. The school is closing in 09 and I do want to visit before then, if only to document things - most of my photos of NZ (~400) were lost in Hawaii by a classmate who borrowed my album from NZ and lost it, and I could only find a few rolls of negs. :(
