    Hello 328 owners,

I have recently rescued a (us spec) 328 from a slow death.

I have done a cosmetic restoration and the duth Ferrari importer (Kroymans) have done a full technical on her. (New cambelt, all new seal, gaskets, major service, etc, etc, etc....filling three pages of work!!!
She had been sitting for aprox. 6 year and had to be rivived by driving her. (400 miles thus far)
At the moment she is running a rich (not enough air) which will be readjusted shortly. She chokes when the throttle is pussed and does not rev and pull as she should do.

Could this be the catalist? I suspect the catalist to be rusted/stuffed (from sitting).
Can someone tell me what replacing the cat with a straight tube will do with power output?

    Thanks for your advice/help!

    Jeffrey

How do you know it's 100HP missing? The pipes will help but not that much ;)

BTW...your air box is missing it's clamps at the boot.

If your cat is plugged, it should be replaced regardless. A straight pipe will be LOUD of
course. But for fire safety, you should not keep a plugged up cat on the car either way.

If it needs new cats, I recommend Hyper-Flow.

Safe, legal, and more horsepower (almost the same as straight pipes!)

U.S. spec with European side markers?

Looks like nero metallico over crema (?) -- great colors.

That's my estimate after driving it...

(Tonight we'll put my Dino and Jeffrey's 328 alongside each other for a head-on comparison)

Edit: And indeed, the car looks great in this color combo!!!!

I just did the same rescue. The cat in mine is still perfect and passes smog easily in The Communist State of California. I really doubt the years sitting did anything to the cat, but I am not a metal expert. I have a straight pipe that I may use, my guess is it won't change the performance any, except that you will smell more exhaust at the lights.

Why don't you have it adjusted first and see what you got.

?? What clamps?? The airbox lid is held down with 4 bolts. Where would this clamp need to be?

i believe he's referring to the long, slender band straps that are arranged on either side
    of the flexible rubber boot.

Yeh...I know...I am way to anal. It gets me into trouble sometimes ;)

But...air blowing by the intake...hmmm...loss of HP? I would be concerned about the mechanic if he didn't sort out the issue of low power. He should know how it runs and have an answer [IMHO].

Car looks nice...thanks for saving her.

BTW...I came across one on eBay....

Take out the air filter and push on the CIS door to make sure it opens.

A few years ago, my 328 didn't pass smog in the Republic of California. Seemed to drive okay albeit sluggish. Put it on a dyno to aid in diagnosis - found air/fuel ratio behaving strangely. Tried leaning/richening to no avail (and not much response despite multiple turns in either direction - it should respond to as little as 1/4 turn). Popped the air filter and discovered the CIS door to be stuck. Gentle push freed it up. RWHP per the dyno went from ~107 to 205. Sure was nice to find that 100 RWHP!

As an aside, FWIW, there was virtually no difference in RWHP on separate dyno pulls with or without the Fram air filter. Have also since swapped out a very crappy/worn set of Champion spark plus for a fresh set of NGK Iridium. Although no dyno data, butt dyno says she's stronger and more responsive, especially in the 4K - 7K range.

    Good luck with the hunt!

I think i have the same problem as you are describing. She is missing air. She has been sitting for at least 5 year!!

We went out yesterday and i pushed her hard (after the 400mls). After this she all of a sudden was very responsive to the throttle for low rev. (2000 rpm)

Is it possible to lubricate the K-jetronic inlet valve (CIS door)? My gues is this will solve the problem.

That's a good old Italian tune up! Run some injector cleaner thru the gas and keep cleansing her. She just needs to be driven ;)
