My driver side radiator looks to have a small leak near the bottom based on the corrosion; heck, it may be a big leak when I remove all the debris that's packed in there from 40k miles of driving...so as the title says, can it be repaired? I took it to a local radiator repair shop and they said no due to the plastic end caps. But I thought I've read of some Fratelli having them fixed...

    Thanks!

PAP is of course right (with enough money) but typically with radiators that have plastic tanks you buy a new one.

Your core is probably corroded pretty thin (even in areas not presently leaking) and will need replacement. It may not be available separately. A good radiator shop can check into it for you. It looks like you may have your answer.

40K is a respectable life for a radiator.

Somehow I KNEW PAP would say that :D

I agree 2NA, was thinking the same thing. And this was enough hassle to get out that I don't want to do this again anytime soon...

ok Daniel, let me know the damage!

    You know me well!! :p:p

I hope you are sitting down for this.........:eek:

It may be cheaper to get one custom made Jay. I chased around some info regarding a 456 radiator for a fellow Fchatter. He was quoted US $7K for a new 456 radiator from the Ferrari dealer!! **** that!! :D:D

He can get a custom made one, to the EXACT same specs as the original for A LOT less money. Around US $1K should cover it. We can get custom aluminium radiators made here, anywhere from AU $600 to 1200. Average around AU $1000. :):)

Thats what I would be looking at mate. Here is the thread I was talking about in the T & A section. ;);)

Sure I was sitting down, but almost spit out my coffee seeing $7k for a 456 rad!

Checked Daniel's site, a relatively paltry $700 for the 355....I guess now that sounds cheap!

Actually.... I quoted your mate with the 456 a price almost $2000 less than that this morning.

That's what they wanted for the radiator in my 348 a couple of years back. Instead I bought a good used one for $200 and put that in.

WHAT???????? is that for a ferrari rad? I've gone routinely over 150k on other brands, plastic and metal.....
Guess mine with 53k is about to fall apart... :)

You could always do it the Mythbusters do... crack an egg in the radiator, and.....

    Presto, your problem is solved

Replaced both my rads last year on a 355 because they could not be repaired, to far gone. Each radiator was £390 (Sterling) each from the dealers.

As tempted as I was to toss the egg in there...I went ahead and called Ricambi, new radiator and temp switch are on a truck. Thanks Daniel!

Just a comment about what happened to me. One side burst and i replaced that rad. Then within days the other side burst, so i had to buy another. I am quite sure that replacing one side some how caused the other side to amplify any weakness in the corrosion. So stand by ;)

I had the same problem with my rad as well so I went and orderd a new one from Dan at Ricambi and I think that is the best answer. Relatively cheap for us Ferrari owners but better than getting it welded only to have it fail again and spend more money. This way you know you have a new rad that will last a long time.
