Current 355 Spyder Pricing

Guys;

A friend of mine is seriously looking at buying a 1998 - 355 Spyder. I did a search here but I cannot find anything recent about pricing for these models. What's the general consensus about pricing at the momentl; where's the market? This particular car has about 20k miles, all records, all books, all tools. Very good condition with some minor wrinkling on the center ac controls, good leather dash, minimal wear on driver's seat, no die. Very good paint (appears all original, although the front lower valence looks too good for it not to have been painted with this mileage). Car to be sold with a full 30k mile service included. Your thoughts appreciated.

I just bought a 1997 F355 Spider. It has 21K miles, the high-end Tubi Exhaust + a spare Tubi muffler with pipes, challenge grill, and a chip upgrade. It is red/black and also has the center console wrinkling. I have the records from the last major (4 years and 8K miles ago). I do not have the books or tools. The final price was $63K. Most of the ones I've seen, with a recent major that is, have been in the 75K-90K range, although everyone is saying that is too high. I've also been told that I paid too much.

 

IMO you did not pay enough... ................ the 355 spider is the greatest car of all time and you should be proud to be a part of the '355 spider dominion' .........

 

It is a buyers market right now. Only a few cars really holding value (Enzo, Daytona). Alot of spyders for sale now too. It seems to be coming down to pedigree/condition and verified history. Every car I have ever sold- buyer has a friend that thinks payed too much and I have a friend that thinks a sold short!! Value is where buyer and seller meet!

A pristine 99 is more like mid $80's.

Most 99 spiders for $70k need service/clutch/tires, it easily adds up to $80k+.

Like the above poster, show me PRISTINE 99's for $70,000 and I'll give you a $2,000 commission for each one I buy.

I agree that $70k for a pristine 99 seems optimistic. Loser's 97 spider with 21k miles for $63K seems like a very good price to me. I just ran into a 95 spider in silver/dark blue in all right condition, with 33,500 miles, asking $77,900, which given condition, etc. seemed high compared to the one being considered for purchase. The one being considered for purchase ask price is $88.5k which seems a bit high but not unreasonably so (presumably to allow for room to negotiate) in comparison. Sounds like a deal in the low to mid $80k's would be reasonable for this car? What's the collective view?

Thought I'd close the loop on this. My friend purchased an Azzuro California 355 spider with dark blue interior. Beautiful car. PPI confirmed car was all original and in great condition; engine had never been out and the car was completely original (except the tires, near as we can tell). I've looked in my own neighborhood. There are spyders low 70's all over town and no takers. 355B's same way. One here is now at 70k no takers 2 months. Was at 65k earlier in the year and no takers then either. Yellow crapbox with flashy wheels @60k no taker either. Well I guarantee if you offer a pristine 99 @ 70k you will have no takers. Looks of lookers out there but that is the same way in realestate right now. Sellers in RE are sitting on property 200 days and wonder why it won's sell. The simple answer is the price. Owners are frozen in yesterday's price. Buyers with cash want to buy at "the sky is falling" price. 456's @ 60k no takers...550's at 80k no takers. There is a heavily advertised euro 360F1 minor body damage 60k I thought about using as a racecar....still for sale no takers. If I was not so lazy about fixing it I am sure it could be had for 50k. 1988 TR nice condition 58k no takers. I think the move it now price is about 10-20k less than most asking prices assuming condition check out. The real problem is that now these cars are going to go to hack mechanics because the economy is bad and then watch the values drop like a rock. We already see 355s with 4 of 40 valve guides replaced what is up with that! You know the answer...fix it so I can sell it mechanics.

 

So what was the final price? Fair question since you also asked.

 

I would probably add another 355 to my garage if there was a pristine lower miles '99 offered at $70 to be bought mid 60s. A fully-serviced "pristine" car at that level is a buy. I paid low/mid 70s for my pristine 97 one month ago, and am thrilled with the machine. Let's not get carried away. There were far fewer 355's made than houses, they aren't making any more, and they're a lot more fun to drive than a split-level ranch. I am a doom and gloomer from way back, but everyone likes to have their fun.

This car is a keeper, unlike (sorrry) 348s or 360/430s. IMHO it's destined to be a classic Ferrari, and sitting next to my Dino, while it doesn't compare, it is a car most people would call "beautiful" and my wife, an extremely discriminating art expert who doesn't give a hoot about cars, called it "elegant" -- unheard of!

As they say in the stock market, buy on weakness sell on strength. The 355 has come down a lot. So did the Dino back after the late 80s bubble. 15 years after they stopped making em, dinos were selling for 30 to 40 times their original price. The 355 is selling for 1/2 to 1/3rd now.
