I have noticed on all the 355 that i have seen, that during the first min of cold start warm up, a wisteling noise comes from the engine then exactly two mins later it stops. I was told that it makes this noise during warm up, to let you know that its warming up.is this right and what makes it?

If its the same as the 360 (which seems likely) its the "secondary air system". Essetially a fan etc system that warms up the cats more quickly that they otherwise would.

It might also be the "power steering issue" - mine is very noisy for the first couple of minutes when its really cold. This is a very different noise to the secondary air which happens all the time hot or cold weather.

Cold air injection for cold starting (similar effect to a choke ???). Mine hadn't been working for a while (blown fuse) now mended and cold starting and running is a lot better.

More tech detail on the 360 version attached in a pic. NB if you're on owners.ferrari.com you can download a pdf manual which is cool for these questions. Pretty much every ferrari since the 250 series.

On final interesting detail. Failures with the check process described below were one of the primary causes of the check engine light on 360s until they updated the ECUs.

It is the electric air pump that runs until the cats have been warmed up.

I have a strange feeling that many have thought about asking that question...... but were afraid to in case it was expensive to put right. HA! HA! F***ing Ferraris.
