I dunno guys, we have had this discussion a million times.

In my view, there is zero downside to not putting spoilers in thread titles. Maybe we could come up with a reasonable timeframe - like 2 days after the race?

People always say that those who haven't watched the race shouldn't come to the site... but it has been stated ad nauseum that the root problem is that the top thread of the section appears on the main page, and it's not appropriate to expect someone to avoid f-chat altogether until they watch the race. And it's not really just a matter of opinion, but it's been hashed out again and again over the years and it most certainly *is* an issue.

Which is why there is a sticky above with a clearly defined rule.

So rather than just saying the rule is stupid or that anyone who is affected by the rule is stupid or that it's their fault, let me ask what the problem is complying with the rule? How does it negatively affect the quality of content on the site? Spoilers are allowed, just not in thread titles. It does not affect the site or posters one bit to refrain from spoilers in thread titles, but it does affect some users in a big negative way when spoilers *are* in thread titles, so given that there is no downside to it and measurable upside, whats the problem?

As speedcore suggested in another thread, why not block the "Last post" display for the R&T section as per the 'private' sections.

People still need to prepare themselves that they might see a result before they are 'ready' and be mature about it, like Amenasce above.

it's tough not to have the race spoiled even with the no spoilers rule. i just avoid the forums all together until i have a chance to watch the race. it's tough but it's the only way to do it. best to just DL the race waiting for replays on tv takes too long

Facebook? I never would have magined.

Michael (SRTMike), I would suggest it is the other way around, there is zero problem if there is a "spoiler" tag, not if there isn't.

To everyone else, bottom line, its been like this for a long time, it really does work, JUST DO NOT READ THE "SPOILER" TAGGED THREADS!! What is so difficult about this?? I can not understand the logic or lack in this complaint. With or without this tag there will be duplicate threads.

But it still boggles me that anyone waiting to see the race would even come on the racing section. Almost every thread and post has something to do with the race that just occured. I can see maybe a spoiler for a few hours after the race but 3 days later is complete nonsense. Do this people actually go about their day to day without watching tv or listening to the radio in the car or talking to anyone for 3 days. I think some of these people should get their life together and stop being spoiled.

Exactly. I have a question for you guys that complain about the spoilers. What exactly do you do in this section if you do you not want to discuss the current race?

You don't have to come into the racing section to see a header. I believe the thread with the last posting gets shown on the main page. With a race thread exclaiming "RACER-X Wins Canada!" and all of the postings it would receive it certainly would be visible on the main page.

I usually skip the live race on Sunday and then watch it with my best friend a few days later on a week night. We're both very busy individuals and our weekends are usually tied up. As I've said before the only thing better than F1 is watching it with a very good friend. Having said that I do avoid the racing section until I see the race. But, posting info in the header can still ruin it for those of us trying to avoid the information. Here in the U.S. F1 is not followed so avoiding the info is actually really easy.

    Spoiler alert should stay.

Despite always watching the race before coming to R&T, I still find the Spoiler tag appropriate. However I think a 24 hour spoiler range should be put into effect, in other words you can't post any spoilers in the titles for 24 hours after the race has ended, after the 24 hours feel free to post whatever you want.

That makes sense to me. There are plenty of threads tagged as spoilers in which the title is a spoiler.

what you all fail to realize is you don't have to come to the racing section. the most recent post gets bumped to the front forum page.

normally i would agree. 3 days is quite awhile. i thought, however, it was widely known that the race broadcast (on speed channel) was delayed until today.

Yeah well we want to discuss the race. What the hell are you going to discuss during or right after a race? huh? Use some common sense buddy...

Australia cares so little about F1 that I could watch TV and listen to the radio all day and never know who Robert Kubica is, or if he won the Canadian GP.

First of all, for your information,

    - by being shown Google ads I do support FChat
    - by using the vendors (ricambi) that advertise on FChat I support the site
    - by posting here i increase the popularity of the site (not because of me!! :) because as the site is used more it has more gravity -- like ebay.

the google ads alone almost certainly support the site more than your subscription.

i didn't ask for a quiet period of no discussion. i asked for the use of courtesy subjects.

like others suggested, it would be ideal if there was a special spoiler subscription or something which one could turn on and off. then no subjects from this area make it to the front page until you [re]activate your spoiler subscription.
