Sorry for the loss. My father passed in 01 to lung cancer. You may not see it now but like some have said, in time it will be easier. Once again, sorry for the loss.

Do not beat yourself up about not being there when she went home. She knew how much time you have sacrificed for her care (and I know you do not consider it a sacrifice but were happy to do it) and she would want you to carry on. You did everything a loving son can do in such a time and are to be commended for how you put your own life on hold while helping her in the last year of her time here. You have earned my respect for how giving you are. She was very fortunate to have a son like you and likewise, she is probably who molded you as you grew up and you were fortunate to have a mother like her. That was a win/win for the two of you. There are many of us out here who cannot say the same for our own relationships.

You did all you could do. There was nothing else you could have done that would have changed the final outcome. Remember her in the good times. With time, those are the things that will come back to you and the times you might have disagreed on something will dim and disappear. Then you will smile inside and out when you think of her and value the time you had to share with her.

My father passed away over 30 years ago at what I consider a young age. He was my baseball coach, football coach and my best friend and I still miss him today but know that I will see him again someday. My memories of him are gold. Your memories of you "mama" will be the same for you.

I wish you well my friend. God be with you and your extended family not only during this time but well afterward.
