It says it's been in a private collection for the past 26 years and it's has been repainted over the years!

I don't know, sounds like a garadge queen to me $41,100 is alittle too much IMO.

No, it's the original paint. And only washed 4 times in the last 26 years, so I guess all the paint is still on the car! :)

    Mid price, a 79 has less power than a 76 or 77.

If you want to drive it to the redline every time and drive it like it was ment to be driven, you are going to have to:

    -replace the belt and idlers
-replace the fuse box (it will melt after a while)
    -new tires
-carb rebuild because of 30 years of sitting and a tune up

and that is probably 6K worth of stuff at a minimum.

So the car should be priced in the low 30's.

And you can re-port the jets to the 1976 specs and get the same power output.

You forgot to mention that a valve job might be a wise investment too -- i.e., get rid of those sodium filled valves (or were they not used on the 1979 model year?).

Pricing for these cars is all over the map and IMO rightfully so. PROPER service is very expensive and so is restoration work. The best example you can find will just about always be a better value than 'fixing one up' as the price of these cars is not nearly high enough to justify the expense of restoration. I would really take pricing on a car by car basis as a very fair argunment can be made for running 308's priced anywhere from $10K-$90K. Depending on the car and condition of course and what you want out of the car.

I have seen this car but not heard it run. It is a “garage queen” driven only a couple of hundred miles a year. It looks new, inside and out. I know the people who have serviced it. They are not Ferrari certified, but very good and honest mechanics with lots of experience over many years. They have a very successful business built up over the last 30 years. I hope the new owner will treat it “right,” whatever that means.

I'll sell you my carb'd 1980 GTSi for $24k. I just did a full service on it. THe paint is very shiny but it needs a repaint from dings and stuff. It has 20,000 miles (roughly - I can't remember and I'm not walking out to the garage).

    $41k is nuts.
