Why would my 1989 Mondial t/348 have vacuum limiters installed (bosch part number 0 280 160 111)? These are installed roughly where the later model Mondial t/348 with Motronic 2.7 ECUs have their idle motors (in parallel and feeding into the inlet plenums).

While mine has a Motronic 2.5 engine, I looked at all the engine notes, maintenance guides, schematic and pictures to find the part, and it does not exist. Then on ebay I saw another early Mondial t where a blue silicon hose was installed on the nipples for these vacuum limiters, linking the two intake plenums (having deleted the devices themselves).

Does anyone know why there were installed, then removed? and if connecting the two banks via a small hose is a major disaster?

Just to piss you off. LOL!!!!

I'm just kidding. I have no idea why they put it on? Sort of like why do they have catalytic converter temperature ecu's??? No other car I have ever owned uses a cat ecu, only the Ferrari. Or, why did they use STUPID bullet connectors for the positive/negative cable, and why did they run the power from the alternator through the starter? Other cars can have the battery fully disconnected once the engine is running, and the engine will stay on. But not the 348, disconnect the battery and you have maybe 10 minutes left for the engine to run.

It's just one of those "what the hell were they thinking" things.

Actually, they were used on some Alfa Romeo models. Must have been the same door to door salesman.

Karl from Verdi tells me this was an 'usual' thing in early F119 engines. When they took them off, they found that many suffered from poor recovery with the engine dipping below the idle RPM then regaining when blipped. Then Motronic 2.7 came along and it all resolved itself...
