I'm afraid I am going to beat this dead horse once again. David's photo linked by Jarrett would seem to be conclusive evidence that Gregg, et al, raced the White Elephant, not Dino #008 as reported by most sources including wspr Race Reports. However, yesterday I ran across this blog detailing the history of 008. It seems pretty authoritative, but perhaps the author is just repeating material from other sources. http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://cll.hemmings.com/uimage/731594-1280-914.jpg&imgrefurl=http://blog.hemmings.com/index.php/2007/04/19/28-days-of-ferrari-day-viii/&h=914&w=1280&sz=1701&hl=en&start=4&um=1&tbnid=oP5S6xpqPrzXwM:&tbnh=107&tbnw=150&prev=/images%3Fq%3DChaparral%2B2D%2B1966%2BNurburgring%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DN Opinions anyone?
One of two made, but both different in detail (lights etc) http://img522.imageshack.us/my.php?image=fotorolfo1fk8.jpg
Boudewijn got the chassis #. It's a 212I Vignale roadster. Hi Jarrett Interestingly it has the same bundle of clothes on the floor behind it as pictured in Massini's 'Ferrari by Vignale' book. I don't know who took them (so no copying in case someone bigger than me owns the copyright - OK?) as I was given them years ago, but it must be at Mas du Clos, but I don't know which year. Anyway, here's another view for you. Nathan Image Unavailable, Please Login
I met Janet Gutherie up at the spring Historics at Elkhart Lake A few years back, bought her autobiography and got it signed. A very gracious handsome Lady who is very tall. I read her book and its a great read. She was a tough, serious competitor at a time when very few in the american racing world would give a woman a chance. She never had the opportunity to drive at Indianapolis with a top ride, if she had she would have competed for the win. Her legs are so long they had a lot of trouble fitting her into the Indy car. She is still kicking but not driving any more. Tom W
So this Daytona was a Ladys car? One shot shows the right front fender with the marking "Miss" ..Budweiser. On the other shot there's no "Miss"......was this added for the race? Great photographs.
Now that I look at it there are several decals that are different in the two pictures. They were all taken on Saturday so I can't explain it.

Thanks. Looking at these I'm trying to picture any of todays GP (sorry F1) drivers racing back then. Can't think of a one who would.
Ya think? Personally I think it takes a different sort of mind set. Impossible to know either way of course.
