Yep i find that definitely a strange thing to say. As its universally known that the USA love there cars more than any other nation. One hears strange things every day and this is my strange thing for today:) Next some one will be telling me that Newzealand loves the gun more than the US of A;) But can we save that one for tomorrow, i cant take in both today:D

While I agree with what you say, that doesn't mean that it's objective television, and I would trust Clarkson's opinion on a car with my money, just because he can thrash it around a track. Also I find their credibility low - Just look at their BMW M5 review - totally misrepresenting the M-drive. As said, I would never judge a car from a Clarkson interview. The laptimes, of course, I wouldn't dispute, but I'd rather look at Nürburgring times for measures of performance. I watch Top Gear for pure entertainment at to watch cool cars.

I didn't know the car industry was of such huge influence. Somewhat sad to hear. It it like this across the board in the media?

It would be nice if they tested everything in either the wet or the dry.

Testing in both conditions makes their data worthless.

of course it is! "the media" is an advertising business.

Top Gear UK doesn't have advertising, so they are free to say what they will, but that doesn't make them objective. it's still entertainment, not journalism. hence, ridiculous races like cars vs boats or fighter planes.

I love Top Gear - it is amazingly terrific automotive entertainment, not journalism upon which I would form an opinion or place my money. The guys are a great team yet are all different in likes.

My personal prediction: Top Gear America is the new Iron Chef America.

But that is why we love it!!! I love to hear Clarkson calling the 911T "rubbish" and making fun of the rediculous cost of stiching for a Ferrari. Oh and the convertible minivan!!! OMG! That's automobile entertainment! LOL

No doubt it will be a sad show...

The UK Top Gear in my opinion is one of the most perfect television shows out there, why touch it?

I remember reading an article that Jay Leno wrote about having an American Top Gear as he was offered the position to host and he turned it down because he did not want to ruin the perfect original.

Automotive shows in the US are terrible...Super Cars Exposed is awful, Car and Driver television and Motor Trend are soo dry and boring.

I think that Corolla could be funny, he could be the "Clarkson" of the show. I wonder who the lead host will be? But, I also think that I will stick to the British Top Gear. This just won't live up to the name.

I really don't give a crap what they do as long as we still get the BBCA version.

I don't think anyone will ever meet or surpass the UK show. THis may be as good as fifth gear though..maybe. I like carolla. Tanner is...meh.

I see where you're coming from, but I'm not sure:

The US car market has about 3 cars (C6, Viper and Ford GT) that qualify for the Top Gear show to be used in any kind of serious (well, as serious as TopGear gets) test. The rest of the US car market is crap and not interesting to the car show anyhow. (Don't take that as an Anti American statement, 90% of the Euro or Japanese car market is crap too).

So in essence I'm expecting a show filled with Euro and possibly Japanese cars, just like the British show is. And an occasional American car to be made fun of or blown to pieces. :)

Adam Corolla stated this week in his radio show that they were mostly going to deal with European cars.

I'll be looking for this on youtube to see how it stacks up against our UK topgear.

The new series kicked off tonight and it was up to its usual craziness. Nice bit on the 430 Scuderia.
