$225 for one tile seems like a very steep price...ridiculous.

The cavallino on the tile is an accurate copy of the cavallino on Francesco Baracca's WW1 Bi-plane, the origin of the Ferrari logo.

Q: You may not know that this same item sells for 32.00 at this site http://www.ferraritoys.com/Ferrari_Tile_p/cft.htm Think about it becauses what you give is what you get in life. Mar-15-08
A: OK then I,ll pass that along this way everyone has this chance to read. they can even buy one if they'd like. but this ones personal, given by and thankin home from the factory were simply no on goes or was aloud to be. we were training and working there. This tile is special to me and hopefully will be to the buyer also. Thanks for sharing, Tony

What a scammer; if it's so special to him, why is he selling it?

Actually, when these tiles came to market, they were listed as 'very limited quantities available.' Sheesh, the 'limited' quantities have been selling for over 5 yrs now!

There are 2 types of tiles that are available...
The first one mentioned in the thread, were from the factory walls of the cafe in Maranello. When it was remodeled, a few were saved and can be identified because of the size and pieces of the wall that are on the backs. Additionally, these are 10 x 10 "
The other variety, sold for 25-50$ each, are recomissioned for sale to the public. A few years ago, you could by them by the box, and now, most are sold seperatly. They measure 13 x 13 "

I have a few of both and would consider the "original" to be much more valuable. If anyone knows where I can find more of the 10 x 10" variety, please let me know.

We ALL sell 'special things' eventually, and we want top dollar for them. I know - I've sold
THOUSANDS of 'special things' (old radio bits and parts collected since I was a kid) - I got
nothing but TOP DOLLAR for them and bought my Ferrari for cash. Not a single one of my sales
was a scam! Just because I made a lot of money (and fully paid the taxes on it) doesn't make
    me a scammer.

A seller honestly selling and a buyer honestly buying is not a 'scam' - it's the market. My advice?
    Don't buy the tile!

I'll answer my own question; Looks like the 10x10's are originals removed from the factory, and the 13x13's are repro's. $225 for an original sounds fine to me. Where else you going to find part of the factory - with all that history - for sale?

Sorry Sezme, not completely true. To the best of my knowledge, the 10 in. versions were produced in the '70s. The 13 in. versions were made in the early '80s. They were originally intended to be used in Ferrari dealer showrooms. The examples of these tiles found behind Enzo Ferrari's desk at the Fiorano farmhouse and at the Cavallino restaurant are the 13 in. versions. The later versions were also made by Ceramiche Piemme in Fiorano and are just as "authorized" as the earlier ones. To say they are reproductions in the sense that they were made by some unconnected third party is not accurate.

I never suggested that the 13x13's were made by anybody other than an authorized source.

Ok - lets call them "reissued"

+ 1 - That's what I thought when I was there for the factory tour last October. Although I did not measure them, they match what I have, and are the real thing. Whoever doubts this should post the markings on the back of the tile

No need to measure, as you can tell from looking where the tiles meet the entrance to Enzo's old private dining room. The height of this equates to about 6 tiles. At 10 in. each this is only 5 ft. At 13 in. it is 6.5 ft. I am over 6 ft tall and have walked through this doorway several times... At the Cavallino, you can see where the tiles have been used to make shelves on which bottles are resting. Many of these are standard 750ml bottles which are about 12 inches tall. During the early '80s these tiles truly were installed all over the place. They even formed the backdrop for some of the F1 car press presentations. Attached is a photo from the 126C2 launch in 1982. If you are into Ferrari history, save yourself some cash by getting one of the 13 in. tiles from Continental for $32. They are the ones people have been looking at for all of these years. This is one of those all too rare cases for Ferrari where the cheap and readily available item is also very much the real thing.

    "Real Thing?"

There are two size tiles that seem to have been produced. The 10 inch tiles that were rumored to have been demo'd from the employee lunchroom in the 70's and the 13 inch tiles that followed in the early 80's.

No one is saying that any of these tiles are wrong. I am simply suggesting that the smaller tiles are the earliest tiles. and were once installed - possible in the employee lunchroom - and then removed. The biggest difference appears to be that the 10 inch tiles look like they have all been removed from a wall, and the 13 inch tiles are new in the box. The 10 inch tiles are much more difficult to locate, and the 13 inch tiles are easily found; even by the case.

Relax, we are only talking about tiles and no one is disagreeing with you. Ferrari did not have an onsite cafeteria during the time period we are discussing. They are only now finishing the construction of one as part of their Formula Uomo program. However, it is possible that the smaller tiles came from what is commonly referred to as the "mensa" (canteen in English) which is located across from the factory on Via Fornace. Anyway, enough of this, time to move on and let this thread go back to sleep...
