Hi, I'm helping give a little much-needed TLC to a friend's 308QV. Need some really tiny parts like the little clips that hold the Ferrari script emblem on the rear decklid, and the parts that hold the electric antenna in the fender hole. Are these available locally or do you have to go to a "specialty" shop/dealer? I'm guessing that the nut on the top of the antenna is metric thread, because I found one on a toggle switch that *almost* fit - but stopped after about 1/2 turn. Going to try Lowe's hardware section tonight, but am not holding my breath.... thanks, gp
Lowes usually has a good selection. I would also start phoning other fastener places. McMaster Carr also has a good selection. There are many threads in here that address good places for metric and other fasteners...just do a search.
The spring clips for the emblems are called "speed nuts" and an auto store may have them... Bad news on the antenna, as when my trim parts "fell off" or whatever happened I never found replacements and changed out the whole unit!
Thanks for the quick replies. I have a manual antenna in my old Spitfire (no wisecracks, please! ) that looks like it has the same "topside" hardware. I thought I had a spare from way back when I first put that antenna in, but no luck. I might just try to buy a replacement antenna and see if I can find hardware that fits. I think the nut will be the hardest part. Thanks again!
It's a very tight thread in the barrell.....try a search here as there ARE exact replacement antennas available but that's a pricey way to get just the hardware... Good luck to you. The trouble with a new unti is the fitting the coax attaches to is ALSO threaded, not the slip plug type of modern times...
Thanks all. I got the speed nuts at Lowe's - exact (or nearly exact) replacement. No luck on the antenna nut yet, though. Walmart didn't have any antenna's that were even similar to my Spit's antenna. Will try Pep Boys on the way home. Thanks again! gp P.S. - not sure what you mean by "the barrell" ("very tight thread in the barrell....")? Sorry if I'm just being dense. Oh, and *how* pricey are the exact replacements? I think adding a threaded coax should be easy - the coax crimpers are also available at Lowe's!
When I replaced my Bosch OEM NLA antenna with a good German one, I was left to fabricate antenna grommet from scratch. The top retaining nut on the antenna is more of a "fitting" than a nut, it's chromed and acorn shaped with hexs at the bottom of it. The shank that threads onto the antenna goes down thru the half round chrome trim that covers the ball on top of the fender... I know this description makes no sense, that's why I bought a new unit, heck I was so frustrated I was going to put a fixed mast in there but the trunk lid would bend it so I went back electric......
I think I know what you mean now, BigTex. I got a manual antenna thinking the hardware at the top might work (it didn't), so I stuck it in just to fill the hole in the fender for now. The "topside" hardware was very much as you described. Still searching for more "correct" alternatives, though. Thanks! gp
We have discussed the original antennas, somewhere on the website there's a thread where they are still available, the complete unit..... I keep tripping over my old one on the kitchen floor.....the darn thing worked fine, someone took the hardware off the top of it as they dumped acid down a rolled down window....
