Sounds to me like you NEED a 355!!!!

 

Even with a PPI performed before the purchase, I do not think that the alternator issue would have been spotted.

 

I don`t feel the seller has any obligation to pay for the repair. It is a used car and an old one at that and no one can predict what can happen.

With the 348, there are known failure points of this car and the alternator is one of them. I have had customers privately purchace perfectly good cars and just knowing what they know about the cars, they chose to upgrade componets that are prone to failure.

If the 348 that you have still has the Delco alternator and wiring, and you replace with the same, you risk the same failure unless you upgrade it.

Despite being sold as-is, you might feel some moral obligation if car died from "shortage of electrons" within the first 50 miles of the trip (indicating running on stored battery power only). This happened on the second day of driving on a car fully serviced two months prior. So, it's just one of those things (as a flat tire was previosly mentioned) and any help on your part is gratis- not expected or required.

 

Or you could just refer the hypothetical buyer to my do it yourself repair thread http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=142329 and have the hypothetical alternator problem solved for about $50.

Offering to buy back the car is a good alternative but who knows what he may do to it out of spite.

 

Morally ...... I say seller should offer buyer a set of new wiperblade refills to square things up .......... hypothetically speaking of course ......

 

I'd probably mention what happened to the seller and get a gauge on whether they would be willing to contribute to the expense.

The seller technically doesn't owe you anything unless you feel they grossly mis-represented the car or in this case they knew the alternator was going to bad.
