I just purchased a Tour de France Blue 1999 355 F1 Spider with Saddle interior. I had Service Italy in Las Vegas perform a PPI and based my decision on their recommendation that she is solid. She is getting a new clutch put in, new Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric tires, and the heater core is being refinished. I don't think simple words can convey the level of excitement I am feeling!!! I think I found the deal of the century and owe it to my good friend who is a community member!!

She is getting put on a transport truck Monday or Tuesday and will be here by Friday, July 4th!!! I plan to fully document (pics & video) her delivery just like a parent would do for their new baby!

I'm looking for any advice on first driving her and I am brand new to this community.

    Less than one week left!!!!!

Let me be the first to congratulate you on your new purchase.

TDF over Saddle is such a beautiful color combo. Very pretty indeed.

    Recommendation on driving her:

    1. Never put the top up on your spider. :D
    2. Never pull on that right paddle before 7K rpm. :D :D

...and the rest it's in your owners manual.

    Enjoy in good health!

    Congrats again!!

Congratulations! One of my favorite color combos. Welcome to F-chat, you will not find a better bunch of guys anywhere. You must post some pics as soon as you can.
As far as driving advice goes the best I can tell you is to DRIVE IT!! there is no use in having garage art. Oh yeah, when approaching a tunnel slow down to let traffic ahead of you clear and then punch it to redline. It will be the best Italian opera you've ever heard.:D Truly intoxicating and more addictive than any drug.

  17. BLAMPEE

It is the 355 from Luxury Motors, ULF. I had the PPI performed at Service Italy. Gary said it is a very strong car and in great shape. Most of the service records came with her, too. Fchat has recommended Service Italy so I based my purchase decision on their PPI.

I'm not scared to drive her. I live in Oregon, so when its sunny its time for her to play! :D

I have 6,383 questions but will only ask two.

    1. It has blue carpet. Should I just order oem floor mats?

    2. Gary at Service Italy said to just turn the ignition, check the gauges, and then start driving. No warm-up time. Any thoughts? I always thought it was better to let a car warm up.

All you guys seem pretty neat. So, I look forward to being a Ferrari owner. LOL. Seven months ago nobody, including myself, would have believed this were possible. ;)

This is going to be the LONGEST week of my life! I'm already having trouble sleeping!!!! Agghhh!!!

PS. Ive never even seen a TDF blue 355 or the saddle leather in person. LOL. Hope its as hot in person as in the pics!

So you've never seen the car yourself and just bought it based on PPI? Now that takes some leap of faith there. Good for you!!

I don't warm it up either. Just wait for the F1 pump to go thru its check cycyle/sequence then just start the car. Once started I'll usually wait for the secondary air injection to finish before backing the car out of garage. Once get going, just take it easy (<4K rpm) before oil temp reach the middle mark. After that then you're free to upshift at past 7K rpm as required..haha.

You made a very wise decision in buying a spider now. I would recommend letting the car idle to a steady 1000 RPM and then take off and drive as fast as you can. You will love the sound of the engine roaring behind you. The F355 is the best sounding Ferrari engine ever. Make sure you drive the car. Most problems occur when the car sits in the garage collecting dust. I have 34,000k miles on my car and it's a 1997. Most of the major problems happens to cars that have low miles. If the 30k service was done and the top works good and you're getting a new clutch check the headers and CV joints and if need be, have them replaced too. You should have no problems but again make sure you drive the car.

For 1. above I suggest surfing westwindeuropean.com --The OEM mats through Ferrari are $900+...suggest westwind and their custom options for ~$300. We purchased their Navy with Yellow 16" Cavallino...looks awesome with the Navy blue carpet.
