After watching this montage of the ferrari testarossa from miami vice from it's first apperance in season 3 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UO3lFQg7xLw
I noticed that crockett"s ferrari testarossa was orignally in some sort of rare black/grey metalic that I just couldn't find a name for.

and then I found this tr in the same color, although it just says that its just black and I'm wondering if any of you would know the proper name of this color?

Nero Daytona (metallic black) is my guess, but my knowledge doesn't go that deep that far back.

    Dear Ferraristi,

Crockett never drove a black metalic TR. His TR right from the impound lot where he and Tubbs went to pick it up was white in season 3 episode 2. The first appearance of a TR in the Miami Vice series was the black metallic driven by an Big-wig Irish shin-fene supporter in season 3 episode 1.

....yeah I know what your thinking......but...I grew up with Miami Vice.

The two TR's that Miami Vice got from Ferrari were originaly black. Both cars got repainted white since the white looked better on film according to series producers. The black TR in the video might have been that same car Don Johnson uses later in the series but then it was white.

Is it bad to own a red 308 GTS and, potentially, a white 1985 Testarossa with the high driver's side mirror? Does it scream that I am living my life through TV or just quenching my thirst for the Ferrari marque?

IIRC, in real life, that black TR use in "When Irish Eyes are Crying" is the same car that became Sonny's car. It was re-painted to white for better screen shots at night. And I think it was just Nero black which is just plain black, not metalic.

    Dear Ferraristi,

I think we're getting mixed up with the history of the series and the history of the story. In the story ( the TV show ) Crocket only drove a white TR.

You are correct about the episode " When Irish Eyes Are Crying", that was the black (don't know if it was metalic...can't tell ) TR and first appearance of a TR in the series.

You are also correct about the producers and their decision about painting the car.....but what went on behind the scenes doesn't matter....only Crockett and Tubbs yelled "Freeze...Miami Vice! ".....that's all that matters. :D

    Dear Ferraristi,

It works for me.....why shouldn't it for you?

Most of us grew up on Miami Vice and Magnum PI. Magnum was in syndication and was on in the afternoons when I got home from school. That car turned me onto cars. Why wouldn't I want to own it?

Miami Vice....oh you know my story. That's era when I grew up and it's just not the car but the styles and attitudes or the era.

But don't worry, all is not lost. I have a Lamborghini Diablo VT Roadster which was never on any TV show. If I can live my life beyond TV....so can you. :D
