GTR What?

ANY car in factory street trim does not need gauges beyond what the manufacturer supplies. There is no way that a car manufacturer would sell something to the general public (read: idiots) that was anywhere close to its breaking point out of the box. The reason race cars need all those gauges is because when you're racing 40 other people with similar setups, thousandths of a second count, and monitoring every function of the car at all times is very important. On the street, it doesn't matter if your exhaust temp goes up 5 degrees because you've been sitting in traffic on the west side highway. Most cars, the ZR1 included, have on-board computers with LCD screens that will tell you exactly what's happening if something goes wrong. My 10-year old Vette does that just fine with no additional gauges.

And if you want gauges, you can always go to Auto-Meter and buy them!

 

Anyone else find it amusing that the price argument is now being used for the GTR, I thought that argument had a copyright to be used for Corvettes only?

 

I only want to know 2 things from my dash when I'm racing:

1) Where's the tach?

2) Am I on fire?

3) (Optional) How much time do I have left?

Everything else I can feel. And if I can't feel it, it can wait.

This is true. When racing, I don't even try to look at my speedo. I do it by feel and also I can tell by the tachometer and what gear I'm in so the speedometer is really obsolete.

 

real racecars don't need gauges. They need telemtry to send back to the pits, where the crew monitor and control sensors in the car.

And to call the GTR a racecar is absurd! Let's see how well it holds up to some real abuse. I doubt that lunch control is going to make for a long life of its running gear.

I've obviously caused a gauge war... which I did not intend to do. I like gauges, and no I don't play playstation or video games.

To try and throw this back on topic... GTR is a good car, heavy, doesn't have the sought after carbon composite brakes, has ****ty tires (even though these can be changed), has to many electronics, is for kids who like playstation... but it still ran the ring in an awesome time. Thats pretty much what I've taken away from this thread.

Dude, are you ever going to own either a ZR1 or a GTR? Then seriously, your opinion is about as relevant as the male nipple.

Nobody gives a ratz rear end. These threads are popping up everywhere by people who don't have the means to purchase either.

Those who like the GTR will go out and buy one, same with the ZR1 and Z06. I vote with my wallet, so you know what I purchased.

 

C'mon E, you know damn well that most race cars (NASCAR, F1, etc) have crews that are monitoring systems real-time and relaying info back to the driver. I would say that the driver monitoring systems is almost a back-up to the crew. To say that because a GTR has a little nav display in the center console that displays some vital information it is somehow a racecar is moronic. First off all taking your eyes off the road to look down in the middle of a race is horrible, at least the Z06 and ZR1 have a heads-up display. Favor Z. Not to mention that the factory gauges are never that accurate, so at the end of the day using factory stuff for precise measurements is like using a sazall for brain surgery.
