I always wanted to build a LP500R (in fact a LP400 with 5 liter engine, black car with attractive white stripes and BBS mesh wheels)
As a collector of vintage Tamiya RC models, I decided to use the latest release of Tamiya: the TamTech Gear Countach LP500S 1/12.
I'll combine the decals from this kit with the decals of the vintage 1/12 Countach of Tamiya (1983).
Ok, the body is a LP500S but who cares?
I took the BBS wheels from the TamTech Porsche 934 and painted them black.
I'm planning to make a simple white interior to make it look a bit more to scale.
I already cut out the Lexan body and sprayed it black together with the other pieces which are red (the standard color of this kit).
The "Periscopa roof" will be outlined with white stickers (as the real thing) as I don't want to cut the body to make it unnecessary difficult.
I will use the mirrors from the vintage kit which will look exactly correct.
Also, the turn signal lights will be round instead of square shaped (on the rear too).
All the window trims are decals and will be added later on.

    Today I've added the stickers.
As you may know, modern Tamiyas use a glossy type of black stickers for the window trims etc.
    I don't like that.
I've given them a matt finish by the Revell #2 (matt lacker) which gives it a more realistic appearance.
The vintage Tamiya stickers for the LP500R are a bit tricky as they aren't as flexible as the modern ones.
    Anyway, it worked out ok.
The stickers say "Countach LP500" so I added the "R" with white paint to get it more acurate like the real thing (see first post).
I also had to remove some lines of the stickers to get it like the real one (the lines around the air intake on the doors if you are familiar with the Tamiya stickers).
I gave the rims a dry-brush job to highlight the mesh pattern.
The whiper is from the vintage kit (the TamTech uses a sticker, not acceptable...).

Next thing: respraying the rear wing and the two pieces for the rear body as I'm not satisfied with the result (the red plastic shines through).
After that I can assemble the exhausts and start building the interior.
    Mirrors will be added last.
Here are some more pics of the build:

WOW That's one of the early Tamiya RC cars. When i was really young I used to watch the occasional parking lot RC car race at a hobby shop near my home, and the early electric Tamiya formula and touring cars were so fun to watch, which is why I enjoy electric cars rather than glow fuel powered cars.

Dennis your work is amazing.... that car is beautiful.

Im speechless about your scratch-built interior, and the mesh wheels are awesome.

    I wish it were mine.
