How should we identify deceased fchatters?

  1. Change their status to indicate their passing (ie, deceased, etc)

  2. Create a separate section for 'in memorium' - public access

  3. Create a separate section for 'in memorium' - subscribed only

  4. Other - please specify

Having seen several fchat members pass recently (coachi being the most recent) I wonder what happens to their account? Does it go away eventually? Is it possible to give them a special staus (ie, "In memorium" or "The Big Garage in the Sky" or something?). Should we?

Suggestions for status? Maybe if we come up with a number of good suggestions I could create a poll.

This is a good thought. I'm sure it must be possible to give them a special status. How about "With Enzo"?

As sad as this sounds, a special forum where there name and dates were the thread title and you could post about them. And a link to their profile and now secured owners pics.

It would be a good one stop place to go and see those we miss and love.

I know I'm new here.... but I wanted to add my $.02 ... a Memorial Section, maybe for owners, or registered users only, would be very thoughtful and nice.

I do not know if it is possible to do but if it could be made "read only" for un-subscribed, that may be useful as Coach had a few u-s friends here as well. But I agree in not letting just anyone post.

it may make sense only as a read only and maitained by the mods. a bit of work but important work nontheless.

I think it's a good idea. As mentioned earlier, maybe put it so that non-registered users could see it such as friends and family members if they would like.

I added a poll with some options but welcome other suggestions.

For the status I would suggest adding 'deceased' to their last status (ie, formula 1 - deceased, or rookie - deceased)

I meant to allow for multiple selections. Don't know how to edit a poll once submitted.

I like the idea of adding the 'deceased' tag to their status so that if you run across one of their responses in an old thread somewhere you will still know they are no longer with us (in body anyway). Mods? Can you help with this should there be interest? Can fchat handle it?

Good idea, but we shouldn't make it subscribed only... a big no no. Just because someone didn't pay the 15$ a month or whatever, it doesn't mean that they don't get to honor their friend.

Rob was very nice when JRV passed.....most of the stuff is still in the archives...and down in Lambo area...

I agree that modifying the member info in some manner is appropriate, I have spent the moring in my PMs re-reading Coach's personal encouragement to me....I will miss him greatly.

Then in other ones we just troubleshoot his Daytona air conditioning...I had run across the Autoweek revealing the F40 coming to the USA and sent it to Coach in March which generated an immediate thanks and reply.....

What great man he was.... glad I knew him at least thru the internet...he wrote me a great PM complaing about the "new kids" here....hilarous, he was wanting to talk to real owners (prior to dm.n.stuff getting that Section set up......)

One caveat would be that I think it would be wise to get permisson from the heirs, just on the off chance that this might cause a problem.

That was a special page in Forza.

This was the thread which Amar started, and sadly, where everyone got the news that he and Jens, the organizer, would not return.

A separate "in Memorium" section would be a wonderful way to pay tribute to those that have passed on to that highway in the sky. Being able to post comments, pictures and personal thoughts I think would be appropriate in remembrance if it was done in good taste. Dedicated mods should monitor thread to assure this.

I wanted to mull this over. I think it's a GREAT idea. I agree it should be the change status with a seperate section / In Memorium" with public access option. I'll run it up the ladder to the big guy. Any mods want to manage this?
