Does not look at good as the 360 engine glass inlaid into the 355 conversion. Do a search to find that by the way if you want something more unique.
On the subject of heat. If there is to much heat in your bay then you should consider a challenge grill. If there is still to much heat there may be something not quite right.

I agree the 360 conversion is beautiful... but not very functional when it comes to ventilation.

I've seen F355's with challenge grills that still had bowing (melting) lights due to the heat.

Challenge grille for sure, then protect stuff that could be affected by the heat. heat shields for alternator / motor mounts, insulate fuel filter, fuel lines, oil lines, etc.

The rear lights melt from the light bulbs inside, not the engine heat. The fix for that is LED bulbs, which I still need to pick up to prevent melting of my 2 new tail lights!

I appreciate the fact that you are trying to be different Nick and you are wanting to have a go at it. :):)

But, I just dont like the look of what you are proposing to do that engine cover. :):)

If you cut the slats cleanly you can always weld them back in at a later date if you chose to.

I do like the idea of a glass lid.

As far as looks, I prefer the original. In addition, vibration from driving would cause a higher chance of the remaining slats fatiguing and cracking. IE, the center section will bounce and deflect a lot more over bumps, etc. with only half as many slats supporting it.

    I say go for it.

If you get the extra hood on ebay for a decent price then go and cut it. These cars do run hot (thanks to the y-pipe exhaust).

The photo chopped hood pictures look OK to me (and I own a 355)............but can you photochop the hood on the car so we can actually see what it looks like on a vehicle?

More view of the motor (I assume with a fine mesh screen) might look very cool and yes it would release more heat.

The rear challenge grill is also an excellent idea as well....and if you don't have it already is a must install.

Theres also one more vent under the car that you can open. The vent in the centre under body panel just in front of the sump is actually plugged. On the challenge cars it is recommended that you remove the foam insulation on the inside of the panel which allows the under body air to circulate around the sump and manifolds.

Why bother? although it does get very hot under the bonnet, Ferrari obviously thought the cooling was adequate. Unless you are running unlagged exhaust manifolds.

Doesnt look right though. I still cant understand why people modify Ferrari's! exhausts etc yes, but chopping bits up, just not right somehow!

Nay ernie, what he really needs is to replace that POS exhaust with a gothspeed design to lower the engine compartment heat by a huge amount. My engine bay is so cool now I can store my extra beer cans back there. :p In reality I can take a drive then promptly turn off the car and go to the muffler and rest my hand on it - it's only warm to the touch. Amazing. And that's on a 348. Imagine ow much cooler things would be if you canned all that 355 crap - extra cats, bypass valves, plumbing, etc.

First I will agree with the nays on this one not only does it look bad but you are not going to gain much by doing it. The 355 hood is already vented better than any other fcar.
Just to comment on Vince's post, My 355CH has no cats, no air pump, no bypass, factory CH exhaust(no muffler) and no shielding ceramic coated headers ie; everything you could possibly do to reduce trapped heat and it is still damn hot under the hood. These cars just produce a lot of heat. The CH cars have an override fan switch that can used to run the fans at any time for as long as you want. They move a lot of air thru the engine bay, that might be the best way to remove heat.

Wow, another reason to get a 348, unless you like it hot. :) Actually, I think Llenroc drives his car at redline more than the rest of us... ;)
