I know I'm off topic here but, just to keep this balanced I will agree with Jay and again add the point that once the valve guides an headers have been addressed they shouldn't need to be done again.
The most important bit of info to remember is to drive these cars on a regular basis, siting wears them out and allows for a certain "unreliable" status to be applied.

When doing the 348 v 355 comparisons, we should ensure that every thing we say is based on fact and in a sensible an impartial manner, as there will be many new potential owners reading this thread in the future.

355 owners are girly boys who can't drive cars without power steering.

    na na na nan naaaaa!!!

355F1 more reliable than a 348 gearbox?? No way. The real problem with the 355 valve guide fix is that there is no diagnosis on the cause of the problem. Repairs have been symptomatic...lets just use thicker steel. The even bigger problem is that especially with a bad economy and or fed up owners 355s get the couple of bad valve guides fixed and the others left alone! Yes I recently passed on a 355 purchase of a car just like that. I think as buyers troll for discounted Ferraris in bad economic times they really have to be extra careful. There are plenty of DIY'ER's and real mechanics doing improper repair either intentionally or under the guise of reducing repair cost.

That goes for all cars, not just Ferrari's and esp not just 355's. There will always be people who take short cuts, we do our best to avoid buying anything from said people.

348 owners are just jealous us 355 owners get all the girls!

what the hell happen to this thread...355 gay bashing?!!
I think 5-10 years the 348 will rise in value like the 993 Porsche.... They don't make them like they use to.

I like your comparison, the 348 however is more like the 964, not quite the last of the an era, and a car plagued with negative attention from the media. The 355 is more like the 993 as it is the last of the small Ferrari's with a body design created to look great and work well as apposed to the 360+ wind tunnel designs. The 993 is the last of the air cooled the last true Porsche 911, the 355 is the last true Ferrari designs.

The 348 is a part of this series and has its place but the 355 is the last of the era.
