Hey guys, I know it is a bit early to post an event in September, but I just want to remind you. So, who is going this year? It is on September 14th, with the main highlights being GM, Zagato and BSA Motorcycles.
If you buy the tickets for just the show before Sep. 1 you save $10. I know I will be going.
    Thanks

Most will be out of town at the "Classic on the James" event in Richmond, Va. that weekend. There were over 50 Ferraris in attendance last year, more than half from this region. In addition, they had another 100+ European makes, it was awesome!

Maybe some members will join me in Radnor, but I am sure not going 250 miles to a car show. Anyone?
    Thanks

I think there will be a local crew there. I am planning on going, but will likely buy my pass at the gate since it is a not a fun event in the rain. Last year the normal coffee and cars crew met up and drove over on the "fun" roads. More to come, I am sure.

I may be there as it is a minute from my house, but I do second the purchase at the gate. If there is rain I will stay inside and be dry.

I'm going. Got tickets for the rally and car show. I am new to the Ferrari scene having just picked up my first Ferrari two weeks ago ('86 Mondial 3.2 Cab black/tan). If anything else is being planned around the show, I would love to go if its an open invitation.

    I ALWAYS GO!!!

So, we do cars and coffee, and then drive down Goshen Road, dodging the wildlife this time, and wander in. Just want to get there early so we can all park our Ferraris in the front lot with the other special cars.

You Porsche guys will probably have to park in the main lot out back with the Chevy Suburbans and the Jaguars. :D :D

Without a doubt. Last year there were not one, but 2 997 GT3s in the "general parking" lot. Porsche guys are just a little less assuming than Ferrari guys....... ;)

Dave, admit it, you keep a Ferrari around just for the parking benefits don't you? ;-)

I think I saw you at Wiggins in West Chester a couple of weeks ago. I was taking my 328 for a shakedown run after I did the gear oil change and I saw a Black/Tan '86 Mondi with a temp tag on the back. Congrats! I work at Holt Motorsports which is a few businesses down from there. :)

    Your kidding! That was me.

I have seen your car around West Chester before. She is REALLY nice...love the color ;)

I have been by Holt's a few times, I must have met you at one point or another. Tim is a real gentleman and knows his stuff.

BTW, I was hoping to bring the Mondi by there tomorrow around 3:00 or so to have my 348 wheels put on (assuming the lift is free and Tim still has the time).

Hopefully, I will see you there.

Guys I found out today that the price has gone up to $35 per person. I have gone for the last 3 years, and will probably go again this year, but the price increase is a little extreme. Just wanted to give everyone a heads up.

If you bought it before Sep 1. it was $25. That's what I did. Yeh, $10 is a pretty big increase.

It is not inexpensive to attend events like these. But you have to consider a couple of factors. The participants spend terrific amounts of money to show their cars. And not all of these owners are rich guys. Some of the cars have been in the same hands and lovingly restored by their owners over long periods of time. This is done on the basis of pride and a willingness to help preserve an important piece of automotive history. These guys aren't doing it to profit from their cars. They are doing it because their dad had a car like this or their grandfather owned one back in the 20's or whatever their personal motivation may be. Look at our own Admiral and his son. He could have easily sold the car for a pretty penny but he knew that he wanted to restore and share the Mondial.

What I find really compelling about going to events like Radnor or St Michaels is when you get a chance to meet the owners and hear their stories. I learn so much history and get a feel for the way "things used to be."

Nearly every car is a work of art. They are the ultimate expression of what culture and technology were like at the time of construction.

Consider all this then factor in that all the proceeds go to charity, its not such a bad investment at that point. Heck, go to the movies and you and a date are well over 30 bucks, especially if you throw in gas and other ancillary costs.

Here is a list of the beneficiaries of the Radnor Concours:

    Willistown Conservation Trust
The mission of the Willistown Conservation Trust is to preserve the open land, rural character, scenic, historic, and ecologically significant resources of the Willistown area and nearby communities, with particular emphasis on the Crum, Ridley and Darby Creek watersheds. The mission is accomplished primarily by working with area land owners to acquaint them with options available to them in planning for the future of their lands, and assisting them in the implementation of those plans.

WCT conservation projects with land owners include the use of such options as family estate planning tools, the donation or sale of fee title and partial interests in the land (conservation easements) and involvement with various public and educational programs established to encourage the conservation of scenic, agricultural, historic or environmentally significant land. To date there are nearly 5,000 acres of protected land in the Willistown Conservation Trust Program area.

    Thorncroft
Thorncroft is a nationally recognized equestrian center whose mission is to help build the physical, emotional and mental well-being of all people – particularly those with special needs – through the close interaction, love and care of horses.

As a non-profit organization, located in scenic Chester County, Pennsylvania, Thorncroft is committed to Therapeutic Horseback Riding - a mainstreaming approach of teaching horseback riding - and to promoting the development of new and independent therapeutic riding programs.

    Ken,
I respect what you are saying, and I believe I will go again this year as I have in the past. But a $10 increase is huge no matter what and using the movie comparison that includes a date take two to radnor and you are at $70 just to walk through the door. I also, am fairly close with a number of collectors who show their cars at radnor each year. I just don't like to see the show get more and more "exclusive." Also, since it does benefit the trust wouldn't it have made more sense to make it cheaper so more people show up and buy more food, jewelry, paintings, and make additional donations. If I got more for my $35 I would feel better instead I then am hosed for a sandwhich and a drink. But, I say again I will be there again ( I am a sucker), but just wanted to give those a heads up who prefer not to pay with credit for a car show to bring extra coin.
    Erik
