I ordered a new door handle and then found out how to remove that gooey stuff off. I simply used a nylon scraper (or use a credit card) and then cleaned the palstic door handle it with Methyl Hydrate (wood alcohol). Then all I did was wax it. Not perfect but better than before for now.
BTW, can someone tell me how I can easily remove the door handle - all I see is one screw securing the pull handle. THX

If I remember correctly here is how i removed my release handles for refinishing......

The door handle is held in place by the screw you can see on the underside of the door pull and also a screw through the release handle, undo the screw holding the door pull and you will be able to move the pull handle far enough to get a Philips screw driver in and undo the release handle, this is fitted to a spline stub shaft and gently pull the handle to remove. The spline is keyed so can only be put back on in the correct position.

I am now questioning myself as to weather there is in fact a screw holding the release handle. It is fairly self explanatory anyway, you can't go too far wrong......

    :)

James, you are right. There is a screw holding the door handle on----Here is a step by step of removing the door panel. Just skip down a few parts and you will see the door handle part...

Thx Robbie. Yes, you ARE the man!! Very detailed and will be most helpful to me not only to replace my Left door release handle but also to clean the goo off the PW switches and to replace the key tumbler gasket on my RH door which just split. BTW, are there any replacement speakers available to get better bass for my Eclipse stereo?

    Thx for a great post.
