I've got a discoloration of the carpet on my door panels. Does anyone know if this can be cleaned? Are there precautions for cleaning these wool carpets?

I just use ordinary carpet shampoo on mine with a wet & dry Vac with no ill efects - but that doesn't look like something that will come clean, it looks more like bleaching - was something spilled on it? If you are worried start with water & a clean cloth - only don;t rub it too hard or you could damage the pile of the carpey & turn it in to fuzz.

It's that way on both door panels. It's been there since I bought the car last summer. So I don't think it's from something being spilled.

Mine's the same way, and it was there when I bought it as well. Sun bleaching maybe? I kind of doubt it, but that's about the only thing I can think of. Up till now I've left it alone as I was afraid of making it worse with a carpet cleaner. But if you figure out how to deal with it, let me know please.

The picture certainly looks like the carpet had something spilled on it that was strong enough to damage it. However, if you are concerned that commercial carpet cleaners are overly caustic and might do further damage I would try a laundry detergent and water mix. I have used a non bleach liquid laundry detergent mixed with water, go very light on the detergent or you will be rinsing forever, and a bristle brush with good results. Afterward the shop va and some time to dry a good coating of Scotchguard, make sure it is the version for carpets, left mine in good shape.

    Good luck.
