I just ordered a car cover from Ricambi and a Valentine 1 radar/laser detector for the Ferrari 328 I don't own yet! They are being shipped to my daughter's house, near to where the PPI will be done in a few weeks. I want them for the drive across country. I have to admit it's like counting chickens before they are hatched but oh well, I guess I can sell both new, in-the-box items on ebay and recover at least SOME of the money.
But as far as I am concerned, two items are must-haves for the trip. I want the car covered at hotels so it is not as immediately noticeable and has a bit of protection. I had a V1 for the entire 7 years I owned my 911 and it paid for itself probably every month I owned the car! ;)

Then again, even if it the car falls through at PPI, I am still buying a Red/Tan 328 GTS SOMEWHERE so I could just keep the items until the car turns up.

I'll be driving from NV down across Hoover Dam - then I 40 to Nashville, up I 81, I 66 to the DC area then on to Annapolis, across the Bay Bridge to Chester, MD. Trying to decide whether to do it as a WACKO driving experience - doing it all in a few looong driving days - or doing it in a more relaxed "see the sights" mode. I'll be by myself and my normal mode is to drive, drive, drive - stop long enough to hit the head and grab a burger to go and then drive, drive, drive. But it might be fun to slow down and take a lot of pics - should be some nice background shots, at least in the western part of the trip.

Reminds me of a quote. Something to do with putting the cart before the horse :).

Yeah, can't argue with that. ;)

But I'm pretty confident that it will turn out fine since my son and daughter have both seen/been in the car and my son rode in it with the owner driving for about 45 minutes. They both reported the car looked new (28070 miles) and seemed to run extremely well. My daughter is totally anal about stuff and she would easily pick up cosmetic "imperfections" that I would miss or ignore. So based on their report and the fact that all the service records from day 1 are there, including a major service just done, I'm anticipating no PPI problems. But, of course, who knows. Heck, it's a good opportunity to visit them anyway!

You know there is a nice red tan 328 GTS in the showroom at Ferrari of Washington (703-478-3606) That would shorten your drive considerably.

Good luck, with your future purchase. With a long drive like the one your planning, if you can spare a few extra hours out of your way then I suggest you drive the "tail of the Dragon." From Nashville continue east on I-40 till Knoxville, From there take US Route 129 south for about 50 -60 miles and the last 11 miles before you reach the North Carolina border is "the Tail." 318 turns in that 11 miles, on the side of a mountain. Great views, and a great road. The best time is during the week, as the weekends are crazy with motorcycles. Last month the family and I did a road trip from Florida to maine and back, and I spent an extra day out of my way the drive the tail. Had the wifes Mercedes ML 350 instead of the 328, but it was still great. You can google "tail of the Dragon" or dealsgap.com to get more info. Good luck with the car, and enjoy the ride. If you do the tail, take & post the pics. I didn't have a camera with me, I guess it's a good reason to go back again, which I will.

I would have loved to like the FOW car since it is only 40 miles from its new home. I talked to folks at FOW about it a few weeks ago. When I explained I had found a 328 with nearly half the mileage, a fresh service and a $6000 cheaper asking price, he said - "Buy that one, this one is on consignment." He implied that if it was up to him it would be listed for considerably less money.

"My" 328 is having new belts/bearings/air cond service as we speak. And the trip sounds like fun though I admit I'd prefer it was a bit shorter! ;)

Thanks for the route suggestions - I will take plenty of pics whatever route I follow.
