My 3 year old loves my 308. He loves it cause it is red and loud. He tells me "Go faster papi, faster!" Its priceless! Your car is stunning! Enjoy it in good health.

Had a great day after my last post. We stopped for lunch and grabbed the red roof for pizza hut. Parked the car on the far end to try to avoid any nearby cars. Guess I will always be worrying about parking issues from here on out. I always worried about door dings with my 911 and always parked a little further out even with my Audi A4 avant, but I can see that now I have arrived at really planning ahead to avoid any trouble.

I see that you have to balance being away from other cars with visibility so that the car doesn't totally stick out like a sore thumb.

Anyhow. We grabbed a table that had a great window spot so that we could:

    A. Enjoy the view of the car
    B. Make sure no harm was headed it's way...

We were in a very small town, and the car's magnetic personality managed to pull an onlooker to it with a cell phone at the ready to document the find. Nice guy came in for some pizza and wandered out when we were leaving to hear the 328 pull away.

It was so damn hot and humid today. Mo other problems with the A/C dripping so that was good.

Lots of Farm land and crops passing by so we had a good time taking some of the smaller roads and getting some photos of the car in the setting. One of my favorite "details" on the car is the fantastic view of the rise and creased fender line just to the left of the steering wheel outside of the windshield. I just find that shape and reflection of the sky on my car there just amazing. What a cool view out between it and its sister on the right side. Can't imagine a better proportion and aggressive focus.

See the photo in the next couple of groups to see what I mean.

No other real issues. The passenger's window "up" function is not working but is fine going down and from the driver's side. The car is truly amazing. If you are considering an F-car and a 3x8 in particular. Don't wait and let time slip through your fingers. Just go get your car. What a waste to miss out on that dream I know we all have. Enjoy the photos. We had an unforgettable time, great experience with Motorcars-Intl, and lots of fun in the process. I can see that after the 900 (I originally was thinking 500) miles that this car can take me anywhere for great roadtrips. I am not worried about being stranded and will start thinking of great photo locations to take the car and the cameras very soon.

    Hi Robb,

I'm glad to hear the trip went so well. I have to say the photos with farmland in the background are some of the nicest I've ever seen of a 328. For a non-red 328, I think Argento(sp?) is now my favorite color on that car! Keep enjoying your car and creating great memories with it.

    Best regards,
    Dino

Yep - great Travelogue!!! I'll be PPI-ing my red/tan 328 on Aug 18 and (if it passes) driving it home 2500 miles! Your trip and the gentleman from Europe who wrote about his 3000 mile trip are my inspiration!

    Keep the pics coming!

Yes, the body design of the 308/328 does make you feel "tucked in" - reminds me of the old 512 Le Mans cars where the front fender rises over the wheels from the driver's view. That was something that Pininfarina lost with the next generation (both when the 348 replaced the 328, and when the TR replaced the Boxer.) The design of the 308/328 is deceptively complex and, other than thinking "whoa a Ferrari" or "it looks cool", people don't usually appreciate this until they've put some miles on one, or hand detailed it a few times.

As far as the passenger window "up" function, it sounds like it's working fine up/down from the driver's side (?), so my first guess would be a dirty switch contact. In all likelihood not a big deal.

Just waking up after staying up late. I wanted to add a couple more thoughts on some of those details that I appreciate or find interesting on the car.

Reflections - seen from the drivers seat are beautiful, baffling, and somewhat engaging. Especially at night. I will see streaks of light off the rear glass, mirrors, and rear sail that you find yourself asking... "Is a car coming up to pass?" "That was pretty." "What WAS that?" "Where was that coming from?"

Reflections back into the speedo of the driver make you move your head slightly to read a gauge sometimes. I get just a little bit of dash reflection in the windshield. I wonder if a dash carpet would help at night. The cost of a raked windshield.

Let me reiterate that I am so impressed with Pininfarina and the 328 that these are not digs but more like something to also enjoy and stumble upon.

Should be more great driving today - top off.

I really appreciate great design. I have an apple iPhone (the original without the curved back) and it fits securely and perfectly in the small cubby to the left of the steering wheel.

Coincidence? I think not. Just glad the 328 was not "Designed in California, assembled in China"...

Congrats on an absolutely beautiful car. I'm sure the pictures don't do her justise. The 328 is such a great car that it looks good in almost amy color, but red, black, and silver are the best. After that 900 mile trip, you certainly have gotten a good "feel" for the car, it only gets better. That was very nice of the hotel manager to let you park the car out front so they could keep an eye on her. That would have been my biggest worry on the trip of getting a dent/scratch on the first drive home. Very cool that your son was able to go on the trip, an experience of a lifetime that he will always remember. When I picked up my car it was a family affair. Myself, the wife and the two kids all went to pick it up. Had a 4 hour drive back and had to stop half way so the kids could switch out, with my wife following in the other car. A good drive, but not nearly like yours. Once again, congrats and enjpy the ride.

    Great father-son pics.

I'm sure Pininfarina had the iPhone in mind when they created the cubby.

I've owned 308's and 328's for more than 12 years and I'm still finding new angles and notice the way lines intersect, etc. They also show great in silver. Pity so few were painted that color. Show us some Colorado pics.

    Best,

Had a great day out with the 328. Feel like this is quite the BLOG although I don't have any experience with them, don't read any, and don't expect to do a diary every single day.

BUT this is a new F-car to me so couple more thoughts...

Slept in late and headed out with my 10 year old south on I-25 to see my girlfriend and give her some extra birthday presents. She was pretty excited about the car and was very surprised how low it was. I have come to the conclusion that all SUV's will always have a hard time seeing the 328. Blindspot times 10. I'll have to treat driving like I am riding my ducati... pretend that they really can't ever see you, unless it's just rediculously obvious. No incidents in that arena, but it does get you thinking. I just can't say enough good things about the car. It will be a love affair until they don't make oil and gas any more. Then we'll have to look at retrofitting something... synthetic gas? flux capacitor?

Lots of thumbs up and smiles from fellow drivers. Lots of whip lash trying to get every last drop of seeing the car from drivers and their passengers as well.

That's a fun feeling, not because you want the attention, but because you are keeping the classic car alive and well and sharing just a little bit of magic along the way.

Will look forward to cleaning the car up next weekend before some more photos in a very scenic part of Colorado now that I am home. Missed a group drive with other area F-cars this weekend to the 14,000 foot top of Mount Evans. May have to go up there very soon solo to enjoy the roads and views. Been thinking about all the possibilities now that the F-car is home.

Waiting on my car cover from Ricambi that should be here on Tuesday. Can't wait to get it on while it is in the public garage in my loft. It can get kind of dirty and I really want to keep the car very clean. The Argento color scheme really is fantastic and doesn't show any dirt, bugs, or water spots. I'd be in trouble after 1000 miles in a black mirrored car so I am glad I decided on Silver after all.

My girlfriend was having a great time. We headed out west to the foothills to enjoy the end of the day. The heat had gone away and it was around 70. Absolutely perfect with the top off. She asked me if I was getting myself into a big hassle with having to be so careful about parking and looking out for bad situations?

Pleasantly annoyed and giving her some crap back, I said... "Yeah, but it's MY hassle and I welcome it as part of the enjoyment of owning the car." Can't really worry about one small part of hassle when there is so much good stuff that goes with it.

Are all of your rearview mirrors stiff and hard to swivel or are they really smooth and easy to adjust. I don't want to force anything. Just curious. Mine is about a half inch off where I would like it to be and when I shift it, i kind of goes too far one way or the other with no middle "setting."

ATTENTION BULLFIGHTER... ATTENTION BULLFIGHTER... ATTENTION BULLFIGHTER... (j/k)
I am so in love with the car the way I have it set up that I am very unlikely to change anything else. I would love to see it sit just a hair lower, but it's not really that bad now that I have it in person. I love the stock concave rims and will be happy to run with those as long as they make 16" tires that are high performance. They are a GREAT wheel design. Guess I will be adding the Goodyears when the pirelli's wear out next spring. The stock exhaust is showing some discoloration behind the rear grill and I might entertain a tubi, but we'll see if there is really much of a difference. No rear side vent changes. No painting any spoilers. I will probably leave a second painted targa alone since it will be off the car the majority of the time anyway. The whole car is really right straight from pininfarina. "That is All." (said in M*A*S*H loudspeaker fashion.)

I'll look forward to more updates in a couple of days and more photos this weekend.

Thanks again for all the great comments and stories on your end.

See you guys back here soon. Otherwise, I sure do like all the other threads out there...

Robb, what a great story! It was such a pleasure to meet you and your son. He’ll never forget that trip... and I get a feeling you won’t either! That car is gorgeous. I absolutely love the Silver. It accents curves and features of the car you maybe tend to loose with other colors. Thanks for sharing the pics of the trip home. I'll be looking forward to your Colorado pics for sure! Too bad you couldn’t have had that 70 degree/low humidity Colorado weather for the entire trip home instead of this crap we have in Missouri you can cut with a knife.

Here’s one of my last views of your Ferrari: (That has a nice ring to it, doesn’t it? Your Ferrari.) :)

Congrats, man! Awesome experience, isn't it? I wish you and your family all the best with it! Randy at Motorcars is a great guy too. I've spoken with him before and he's always been very pleasant and helpful. They do seem to get some of the best 328's in the country too. :)

HASSLE? With an old Ferrari?! Bah. That's like saying Italy has a corrupt government.

Mine came with a Tubi from the previous owner, and it does look noticeably nicer than OEM. It's not much louder, however, and if there's a performance benefit it must be slight.

But I must agree with your agreement with me. I just haven't seen any aftermarket equipment or customization that has improved the looks of the original design.

    Congratulations, Robb!

Great pics! Your windmill pic rivals my Italian Restaurant pic in my profile - not that I'm biased or anything. I trailered my car home when I took delivery (December: salty and snowy roads) of my Argento GTB so I didn't get to "bond" with my car like you did. I made up for it though, the following summer with a road trip to the USGP @ Indy -- ~1300mi. round trip from NoVA to Indy -- pictures are somewhere here in the 308/328/Mondial Section or in the 328 Mega Thread.

I have 18-month-old twin boys and look forward to having similar adventures with them like you did with your son! I'll have to figure out if either:

a.) A 2+2 is in my future so that we can have a family fcar convoy (456, anyone?) or
b.) I might have to do it in three separate trips!

Congratulations again on a great trip and for finding a great car.

    --Anthony

p.s. did you mention what the SN of you car was? '88 Argento GTB #75912 here...
