Are 7 year old tires really a problem ?

I pulled a brand new pair of tennis shoes out of the box where they had been sitting for about 4 years. Put them on and walked to my truck. Drove to work, got out and walked about 50 feet before I heard a flopping sound as the rubber sole of one shoe
was already seperating from the rest of the shoe. Lousy Chinese glue had dried out just sitting in the box.
It makes me wonder about the quality of anything made of Chinese rubber like car tires or any old car tire for that matter even if it is still NOS.

 

235/60ZR15 Pirelli P600 or 215/70ZR15 Pirelli P4000. I use the Michelin XWX 215 and 225/70VR15s as well. The 235/60ZR15 P600s I really like on my Daytonas and C/4. If you're in a jam and can't find them (Michelin or Pirellis), I have extra sets in my garage in the Bay Area (CA) and can get them to you before Monterey.

Amuses me reading about the lack of grip of the XWX's ... and people wanting more grip, etc.

Driving these old cars like they were is to me what it is about, not winning races, and the lack of grip (even for those old race tyres) WAS how it was, and why we now love all those photos of now old cars drifting. Also change the grip level and then next thing is the poor braking and then lack of horsepower and soon you will have turned your classic Ferrari into a race car or some sort of replica ...
