Well, do we really know that a Colani Daytona is worth less than an original one? Colani is an artist after all.

 

the car has to be somewhere. And if it was destroyed, anyone who had part in that, would have remembered this particular car. As hidious it may

Reviving this decade-old thread to say RIP to Luigi Colani and to ask once again if anyone has tracked down this insane, mysterious Daytona?

 

I have wondered about that for more decades than I care to admit. Colleague Richard Heseltine mentioned in FB a few days ago that he had interviewed him -or tried to, mentioning he was the feistiest person he ever tried to record- so I just sent him an email to ask if he got an answer about it.

My 2 cent theory is that he needed money at some point and just sold it after which the car was restored to standard. An artist typically would not want to reveal that harsh reality necessitated the destruction of his oeuvre....

 

Another Frankenstein creature. Yes, it's a Bizzarrini. Car is restored with a correct nose today.

I don't see how the engine would fit under that sloping hood.

 

Right, I just heard back from Richard Heseltine. He met him at a London show and asked him a couple of questions which were ignored, Colani then talked "at him" for half an hour about loving curves and everything round. Ten years later he contacted him asking him about the Bizzarini and an AC he had also modified but Colani was just not interested in responding.

To answer the comment of the poster above the engine is far behind the Colani nose, partly under the root of the huge air intake/nozzle/elephant trunk thingie. he did not modify the structure of the car just the body.

 

What a beauty ! Hope it was saved from this disaster.

 

Looks like a body kit over the intact original Scaglietti bodywork.

I was a great fan of Colani already before I went to school, his deigns were featured in the German car magazines every now and then.

You should take a look at his Miura, AFAIK it has been found and is going to be restored, really wild!

That one was for sale in Switzerland on the Classic Driver website for a few hours and then it disappeared like it never existed, I am sure we will see it somewhere some day (although personally it's not one of my favorites from Luigi Colani).

 

Rest In peace, a shame there was so little documentation of his work, or what became of the vehicles anyway....
