    Hey Guys,

Anyone remove a vintage Vitolomi (Spelling?) California Mirror?

My question is, once you remove the mirror itself and attempt to remove the bracket from the door skin, there are two screws actually holding it on, a standard and the other a Phillips style.

Do these screws have nuts behind the door skin, or are they in fact machine style screws.

I thought I’d ask the question first as to not make a small project larger by having to remove the inside door panel, if in fact there are nuts holding the screws on.

Oh, the car is a 79GTB, Drivers Side.

    Thanks guys,

    Chris.

No, there are no nuts behind them; just screws, at least on my car.

    HiChris,

I too am about to change to a later style mirror. The 77 stock drivers door mirror looks sleek but provides marginal rearward visability. I am willing to forsake orriginality for the safety of a better view.

What are you putting on?? drivers side or both sides??

    curious,
    chris

Vitaloni makes a pair of small rectangles, I run them on one car..

I'll take ya'll's old teardrops, mail 'em over! LOL!
I agree they are not much help..

No backing nuts Chris, the later cars have threaded inserts in the doors, but our early ones are just regular screws, in my experience...

    Hey Chris, Bubba and Mike,

    Thanks for the replies!

    Appreciate them!

I can proceed without hesitation now.

Chris: I’m actually removing the one (the only one I have), from the Driver side to do an even job on polishing.

Interesting to note Guys: I’ve found a source for BRAND NEW NOS pieces, that’s right 2 ea. (Driver side and Passenger Side) with all the hardware needed for $127.00 + shipping.

If anyone’s interested let me know and I’ll provide the Phone Number.

Christopher, that is a good price! I usually see them for around $80 to $85 each.

What is meant by "new old stock"? Are they truly vintage versus the current production?

The reason I ask, is that the original ones from the 1970's did not have the bluish tinting that the current production does, and also, the base plate was reversed.

BTW, I see George Evans has some good prices on them on Ebay:

    Ha,

You have good insight.....I didn't realize that George Evans had them on e-bay, I got his phone number as a referral from T. Rutland’s. Originally, I was just looking for the base gasket, but with the price....I thought why just not replace them???

George only quoted me $127.00 for he pair plus shipping.. Not bad…

He advertises them as NOS too…..
