Interesting post. I'm a consultant and have been to over 10 different clients so far in my still young career. I have even been in some financial companies and none have required a tie. In fact, most are just business casual and the only people that you might on occasion see wearing a tie would be a CXO.

maybe twice a week...but definitely not "daily". actually...I do, for about the first week or two of a new job. Then all that goes out the window. :p

Been there, done that, as 3 years in a Monkey Suit was enough.

It hadn't been that long since we'd seen each other!

I only wear a tie when I have to be gone for a few hours during the work day just to mess with people.

Yes, Monday - Thursday. Friday is casual day.

This is actually a huge bone I have with the place I work for. If I were to walk in with slacks and a nice button-up long sleeved shirt and no tie I'd get yelled at. And then if I were to point out that EVERY SINGLE FEMALE employee is breaking some sort of dress code rule I would get yelled at for that too. They wear **** they wear to the mall, and that's deemed acceptable?

That's my biggest gripe. I have no problem wearing slacks and a nice shirt, I find them very comfortable actually. It's the tie that kills me. It's restricting, and in Texas it causes me to sweat simply walking from the garage to the building. I've now resorted to just having my tie on loosely.

You could wear it around your head..

Luckily I don't have to wear one here. We are business casual. The only people that have to get dressed up beyond that are the people that are seeing clients.

HAHAH! I should do that one day. They can't say I'm not wearing my tie.

That's what I don't get. Why is it such a big deal, when I don't talk or see anyone. Especially since the vast majority of companies are changing to "no ties". When you bring it up, it's like speaking of Area 51 with a government official. They avoid it completely.

I wear one whenever I go to the office or to a business related meeting. Don't wear one on days I work from home. :)

I wear shorts and tshirt in the summer. Jeans and tshirt in the winter. This is your typical computer dork work attire around here.

Yes. Law firm is casual every day, but I still wear a tie by choice almost daily. (In the summer, I might skip a day or two, and maybe Fridays. Otherwise I prefer a suit and tie.) (And no, I'm not 60. 32 actually.)

Nope. Summer here usually means an Augusta National polo and khakis unless I am in Asia, then its a suit and tie every day.

Jeans and tennis shoes with a collared shirt is what I usually wear. Helps when you work in a secured windowless building.

I work or at least try to look like I am working on my horse farm most days. So a tie would actually be dangerous horses like to grab loose articles of clothing and tug on them sometimes. If that is not bad enough getting it caught in a tractor PTO would leave a kink in the neck. :) T-shirts and shorts or something I said I never wear as a kid Bib overalls (them farmers aren't dumb they know what is confortable) is my daily uniform.

No tie for me, and I haven't worn one daily for about 8 years. The company I co-founded has space in a class A tower and I enjoy riding the elevators in the AM wearing jeans & a polo or sweatpants and a t-shirt amongst a sea of suits. I do dress the part when we have meetings or lunches, otherwise its casual attire for long hours of comfort.

Don't think I've ever had a job that required me to wear a tie other than banquets and such.

Be thankful you get to actually work with women....at my engineering facility, I can count the number of attractive female coworkers on one finger, she dresses more conservatively than my mother, and is married.

I 'used' to wear a tie almost daily - I had the office name 'GQ' for a couple of years until I realized my dry-cleaning bills were destroying my available Bar-Tab fund.
