Do you guys know a good reputable BMW Shop? I want to turn off my Day Time Running Lights. BMW of Sterling wants $50 for 5min worth of work. The shop needs to have the GT1 Programmer or Autologic. Any help is appreciated.

You aren't going to need daytime running lights in jail! Just teasing! You can try and speak with Bradley Stuller at BMW of Fairfax, he is the only guy that used to work on my M5's. He is a great guy soooo don't piss him off! There is also a independent BMW shop across from Fairfax on Prosperity Rd, might try them as well, they are an authorized Dinan dealer and have a good rep.

You can also go to Pat at Pro-Imports in Rockville - they work mostly on BMW and VAG cars. They work on my M5 and have a GT1 machine (they're also the only VW indy mechanics in the DC area to have a VAS machine too). Shop info:

The reason I'm asking for Indy shops is I'm trying to find a better dealer. All the dealers do provide this service, but they want to charge 60 dollars for a 5min job. So now, do I go up to him and make an individual appointment just with this tech, or do I still make an appointment with BMW of Fairfax?

I totally understand your concern about the fee versus the time it will take,(it would piss me off too) however you have to take into consideration the repair facilities investment. The tool they will use costs several thousand dollars. They have to pay for it somehow.

You might try Autothority and Electrodyne on Eisenhower in Alexandria. While both are primarily known as Porsche shops (and Autothority, in particular), I think they do work on BMW's.

Call and ask to speak with Brad, he might hook you up on the side. Like I said, he is the man!! He was the engine guy for 2 years with BMW/PTG racing team, he can take an M3 engine apart blindfolded and put it back together!

If he hooks you make sure to give him a $20 and that will keep the favors rolling.

Ask for Pete, the owner. He's very well qualified. He specializes in BMW's.

I know, I know, I'm just too much of a nice guy I guess. Actually, Brad is a crappy mechanic and by the time he gets done with his car he won't know his front bumper from the rear! LOL!

I tried getting a hold of Brad, I think he is pretty busy no luck. I'll give it a try again later on today after lunch time. BMW of Fairfax is my favorite, I hate BMW of Sterling.

40 miles isn't bad for a good mechanic. I'm about 35-40 minutes away from him as well, but he's worth it. I've known him since my college days at Tischer Bmw 11 or so yrs ago.

Let me see if I get this straight...you are too cheap to pay 50 bucks to have something done to your car, yet you are willing to drive two hours in Northern Virginia traffic to get the same thing done for 10 bucks less? Do the schools in Northern Virginia teach the kids these days or just warehouse them?

LOL! Isnt there a trial to worry about for the reckless speeding ticket Msoltanian posted....and you are worried about turning off your daytime running lights?? I thought you were gonna sell this thing as an act of remorse???

Bet you will want those day time running lights in the cell with you :)

It's actually $65 depending on the dealer. My car gets 20MPG. The full drive will be 80 Miles, so 80 / 20 = 4. At $4 Per Gallon, I'd need at least 4 Gallons * $4 = $16 + 40 = $56, Still cheaper than BMW Dealer. I haven't decided to go there though, so who knows.

Minus the two hours of your life wasted that could be used to better yourself or those around you, or spent rubbing one out while surfing porn.

wow...no one said he'd be driving in rush hour traffic.
A good mechanic is hard to find...so it's worth 40 miles for me each way. I'll never take my car to a dealer...and I work for one.
