I've read the thread on how the windows become slow moving and I've seen the posts/adds for window boosters and I'm trying to figure out how this thing works. It can't "make" more power; the battery/alternator power is all there is so how does it work since it isn't a new, more powerful/efficient motor for the mechanism. From reading the instructions, it seems to mostly just add a better ground. What does this thing actually consist of?

I increased the speed of my windows by adding a set of 12 volt relays inside the door. You will have to run a NEW 12volt Fused wire inside the door and attach it to the relays.
I was only getting 6 volts to my window motors. After installing the relays I am getting 12 volts.
    Radio Shack Relay Part#275-218.

I think the ones advertised make a better ground connection.

    Good Luck

The advertised ones contain a few relays inside the box and a new ground. The relays get better voltage to the motor, and the shorter ground helps to keep the amps up (IIRC). They do work remarkably well, and for the low price, you get a very nice result.

I put them on my 348, worked good. Yes it is in the grounding.

There is considerable voltage drop in the switch contacts and the wires between battery, switch, and motor. As much as half the 12v power gets converted into IR loss heat. As others have mentioned about better ground, that's half the problem eliminated, so the motor gets perhaps 10 volts instead of 7v, a considerable improvement. That's adequate for most guys. For the rest of us, 2 relays are placed into the door, along with a fused battery wire, so the motors get full 12-13v. Month or two back there was an informal window speed contest, mine are 2 sec down and under 3 seconds up. (engine off)

The window kit is worth buying. But you really need to remove old grease from the gear train to take best advantage of it. Plenty of threads to explain how to put things back together when you get stumped.

I had previously cleaned, adjusted and re-lubed all the pully wheels and chicken wire they use to lift the window.. that made things a little smoother although still not reasonably fast.

I then bought a set of the the booster and I've got to be honest, they did absolutely nothing for my car.

Out of curiosity I pulled the motor during the booster install to check it and found that it were fairly new, replaced by the previous owner.

My windows are still as slow as molases in the winter.. When I get time again, I'll pull the window motors, disassemble, and solder in a heavier gauge primary wire which I think will do the trick. I'm sure the tiny little wires can only carry so much voltage.
