Can 360 wheels be fitted on a 308 gts ???

I have found some FERRARI 360 20 INCH SPLIT RIM ALLOY WHEELS WITH EXCELLENT P0 TYRES, FRONT TWO HAVE ONLY COVERED 300 MILES, REAR TYRE SIZE IS 285 30 20 FRONT TYRE SIZE 235 30 20 BUT WILL THEY FIT ????? many thanks Mark.

 

There are a few that have gotten the 18 inchers to fit, but the rear required either narrowing the rim or suspension modifications. There's very little chance a 20 will fit without major alterations or the car looking like one of those impala hi-rise rides.

Remember, bigger wheels generally == more weight == less straight line performance

 

I have just measured my tyre across and it 24 and a half inch across with low tread a 20 inch wheel with 2 and a half of rubber around it,
would have the same rolling radius ???

You will need big-ass spacers to put 360 wheels on a 308. I personally would be leery of that. Furthermore, in my humble opinion, those wheels are too large for the diminutive size of a 308, but to each his own.

P.S. The best way to do it is to find 4 front wheels and use those, so you don't have to deal with 285s on the rear. Some people have narrowed wheels also.

 

I went and looked at the wheels and came back with them ?????
I could not resist they were originally £4000 I don't know if its true but I have never seen any thing like them.
all I have to do now is get them to fit,
They are three piece split rims thats all I know and they belonged to a Manchester United football player,

Almost everyone narrows their rear wheels for a 360 to 308 conversion. I'm not going that route but I will keep mine at stock width, the trick is a narrow body shock. QA's won't help you here. I hope to get mine ready shortly, I've just got back to work so this mod has been put on hold, but I'm now ready to get it going again. I think the 308 looks just fine with the 360 wheels, you got to get the car's stance right that's the key. Bigger wheels on an older muscle car works and so will it on a 308, right wheel/tire, right stance!

 

With no spacers I offered them up and hey presto strait on the front now all I have to do is reduce the back to the same width and decide on the colour RED SILVER or BLACK. I have noticed the discs space the wheels out 20mm proximately I may reduce this 10mm so they are not totally flush with the arches but all in all I am pleased I have not got to go down the road of spacers.

Make sure you hang on to the original wheels for if/when you change your mind.

 

Stance!! Sets to high. Car needs to be lower too much space between tire and fender.

 

I'm just helping here if you like it as is then that's ok too.
Here's a quick Photoshop, this is what I'm talk'n about car needs to lower. Yes lower creates other problems but the nose high tons of space between the tire and wheel doesn't cut it. Chip Foose 101 "Stance is everything", you don't get the look right at the start it's down hill from there.

Where is the brake rotor?

 

Perfect stance without question the next stage is to get a big brake kit Brembro or AP??
but back to suspension how do I get the car looking like you have put it in the photo ??

 

First you need to do a lot of checks on measurements, what's the overall dia. of the tire? Same as an 18'' 360 tire? Is this wheel a 20 in. ? Thread width? Wheel offset? One thing you don't want is the tire catching the wheel lip and pulling it out. From what I can see from the photo showing the tire and fender lip from the front this will be a problem. Is this wheel in position without a spacer? If you have a spacer I suggest having a few mm machined off it. You may need to roll the fender lip or cut it for clearance, these are tricks the HotRod set do. Does your new wheel have enough material on the hub to shave a couple mm off? I don't suggest doing this but I've read here some guys have done this.

Ride height can be accomplished two ways, shorter springs but same spring rate (don't cut them spring rate increases) or a coil over setup. 20's may be pushing it but if your over all dia; offset and width are the same or close it may work at a lower stance. 18's are max. I would go on this car. I did see one once with 20's and lowered.

What I suggest to do is put the car on blocks at the ride height you want, remove both front shocks since you have to do this any way. See how the wheel and tire clearance is by turning the wheel and suspension travel and hope nothing interfers.
It's a process, it's too late now but you should have gotten measurements first and made templates and check things out before hand. You now have to work with what you have.

When I put larger tires on my Tbird and lowered it I made templates and done it this way to find out what width, dia. and offset will work then buy the wheels and tires. I use to design wheels so I designed my offsets and sizes on cad off specs. then made cardboard templates.

My Ferrari will shortly be blocked at ride height and I will work on getting the stock width rear 360 tire to fit and the stance correct.

Keep us posted on how your progressing and good luck!! I'll try and find that larger wheeled Ferrari jpg for you. I keep jpgs of all mod 308's.

 

Why would anyone want to mess up a perfectly good 308 with nonstandard wheels? Expensive, too.

That's an aspect of Ferrari I appreciate...each model is an integral and complete design, some better than others.

Have to say, though, that on the 308 I've missed the traditional 3-eared swept-back knockoffs...maybe I should get some that bolt on at the lugnuts.

 

I for one don't want my Ferrari to look like everyone elses, every car can be improved, even a Ferrari. The first thing done on all three of my cars, wheels go, different wheels added and ride height dropped.
Looks/wheels are subjective thank God we all like different things because it would be a very boring world if everything was the same. I have no problem with Mod Ferrari's. I'm a Hot Rodder at heart so mod cars are exciting and not all the same.
I can alway put the car back to stock when I want to sell it for those who lke it that way.

 

Jim, I agree to a certain extent.

If insurance permitted, I'd install euro-style bumpers on my 308, and eventually am going to look into a smooth, matching-color targa top, to get the GTB look. I now have a Tubi, slickshift gate and billet shiftknob, and will probably do a few more aesthetic/functional interior bits.

However, the factory five spoke wheel design is the best looking for the 308, IMO.

As far as hotrodding goes, I love sleepers...cars that look stock but are stealth beasts. Always had daydreams of a six-carb setup and cold-air box for the 330, and now with the 308 I have similar daydreams, this time they're about a 4-liter carbed engine.

 

A nice set of wheels makes most cars look that much better and the stock wheels are so out of date and small looking...18" is an excellent choice

 

Great, your choices are a Plus!!! The top is a great way to go. I'm sticking to a five spoke 360 Ferrari factory wheel on mine.

Not sure about that... no one would say Borrani wire wheels are out of date on a 275 GTB, because those wheels/tire sizes were contemporary with the car. I'd say the same for the Daytona/Boxer/308/328/TR five-spokes. Part of the cool factor is that these are classic cars, with distinctive wheel designs. I've yet to see anyone swap wheels on these cars and improve on Pininfarina's design.

Also, when I see large rims on these older cars, I imagine the owner thinking: "I can't afford a new Ferrari so I'll try to pass off my old Ferrari as modern." True? I have no idea, but the thought always crosses my mind.
