    Hello,

Here is what happened to my Ferrari 328 today:

It started up fine, almost immediately after leaving my driveway the car started to sputter and felt like it was going to just shut off. It was like the car was not sparking right and it seemed like it wanted to stall. I was only down the street from my house so I turned the car around and drove it into the garage. I turned the car off, and tried to start it again. It would not turn over, all I hear was a whoosh sound. The starting issue is not battery related. I just had the Major service done 300 miles ago. I also had the Cam shafts replaced as I had a major oil leak problem. The week before when I took the car out there were no issues at all. The time before that it was sputtering a bit but once it warmed up it was fine.

Does any one have an idea what this might be ?? Fuel pump maybe ??

    Thanks

    M

oh man... it doesn't sound good...sorry to hear about your trouble...

I don't EVEN want to hazard a guess...because everything I might guess is ... well... not good....

But it could be less serious... hopefully, anyway...

Best of luck, and let us know...enquiring minds want to know.

It might be the starter that dont engage and spinning free, If so, then your starter needs some lube.

Sounds like a woosh of air. The car did backfire before the trouble started. I am lucky I was not far from home otherwise it would have needed a tow.
When I was sitting I could get the car to idle up but once I let up on the the gas pedal the car acted like it would stall.
I am going to guess that it could be a bad fuel pump.

Did it backfire out the exhaust, or "pop" through the intake? If it was through the intake, it might have simply blown off the boot.

    You have a 3.2, yes?

As suggested, ensure no air or other leaks at hose connections.
Check that you have spark on both sides.
Check the O2 protection relay for the K-jetronic in the trunk. It's the relay with the fuse on it: check the fuse, remove the relay and shake it. If it rattles, it's broken (This is a high probability)
Remove the air filter - with the key on, depress the big round air mass sensor plate right there - once depressed, you should hear the fuel pump come on.
This should get some basics looked at.

um, its nice to try to help, but you do not lubricate starters.

did you buy fuel last time on the way home? could it be bad gas?

did you check to see if you have fuel pressure? spark?

there are several things you can eliminate, if you know what IS working.

It looks like it was the O2 protection relay that was the culprit. The wiring was the problem. A sigh of relief on my part!! Thanks to everyone who offered advice and especially to SNJ5 for figuring it out.

I am not sure where it is exactly, I brought the car to Boston Sports and mentioned that I thought the issues might be that relay. That was where they looked first and found the problem. I believe you have to pull out a couple of panels in the trunk to get to it. I also noticed that someone here with a Mondial had the same issue I had.

It's located in the trunk, on the passenger side. Remove the carpet, and you you see the panel. Remove all 4 10mm bolts, and flip the panel up.
