I like the corrected stance but those wheels look totally cheesy IMO. Put 'em on a 350z or a Corvette or even a Suburban but not a classic like the 308.

It's nothing about we can't afford a new Ferrari, it's about not wanting our car to look like everybody elses car. It's like saying a guy can't afford a new Camaro that's why he put bigger wheels on a 69, come on me give a break.
If I had a 430 the same rule applies I would change the wheels and lower the car a tad. If I bought a Fusion or Camry or a Bentley for that matter the wheels go! I always personalize my cars.

There's nothing wrong with stock if that's what you like. I say that your suggestion that you yet to see anyone swap wheels on these cars and improve on Pininfarina's design. I think the Pizzaman with his 550 wheels on a 308 looks Great. The person who started this tread wants large wheels on this car if that's what he wants that's fine, only trying to help in getting the stance right.

I agree with Jim, making mods to there cars, it is what that person likes, they are personalizing their car. I change what I want and like, and some people like it some do not, as far as their comments, I do not care. Alot of people on this forum made comments about my grill, but when my red 308 burnt up, the same people that made comments pm'd me if i was going to sell the grill. Every mod I make, I can bring my car back to stock in a few hours.

As far as affording a newer car, people buy what they like, new or old, and plenty of people on this forum can buy new or old.It is just a matter what they like. Here are a couple pictures of my cars, so let the flaming begin, because as I said it before, I DO NOT CARE. .

That bit about "the stance" is the subjective part. IMO, the stance on these cars looked "right" from the factory, given the era and the lines of the 308/328.

I think it's about whether you celebrate the 308 as a classic car, or feel the need to modernise it. Obviously I'm in the former camp, and haven't found any modernisation efforts to have turned out to be improvements.

As to affordability, Ferraris are in a different bracket than Camaros. There are very few of us here who couldn't buy any Camaro from 1967 till they pulled the plug. There are many more who could not afford an F430, with its 2000's-era wheels and brakes, but can swing a 308, with it's 1970's-era wheels and brakes. Again, it suggests to me that the 308 owner who swaps wheels, etc., probably wanted something newer. I realize that's a sweeping generalization - just wanted to throw it out there in case anyone was on the fence about originality versus feeling compelled to mix-and-match old and new aesthetics on these cars. As you say, there's nothing "wrong" with the OEM configuration.

Again, it's just my perception as a 40-something guy who judges prospective Ferrari purchases on orginality and condition. Not some kind of law, and I realize there will be a lot of resale 308s out there that won't conform to my collector/preservationist standards.

Right on Chris- Looks great. Your 308 could be sitting right next to 10 stock 308's and I would walk right past them to yours. I Love Mod 308's

Chris, your "after" 308 and Dominick's cars do look really good.

I have to admit, after seeing both sets of photos, that the new-style 5-spoke wheels are growing on me.

Where did you get the red targa top? I'd like to have one for my GTS.

Thanks for the link, Chris. I guess all the 308 GTS tops were textured...or not?

    Yup, they're all textured.

There were two aftermarket tops that were not textured -- the Saratoga clear top, and the Japanese carbon fiber roof. The carbon one might make a good starting point if you can find one. The Saratoga is often warped by now.
