PUT YOUR PATIENCE PANTS ON !!!

Part is being finished right now. I'm disappointed that I don't have it yet, but it's only a month late - what's a few extra days.

I'M JUST WAITING RIGHT NOW. BUT AT LEAST DUDE IS EMAILING ME STATUS AT 8AM EVERY DAY!

    HOLD TIGHT.

(and keep your fingers crossed that this isn't another of Husker's "Otis Spunkmeyer" threads). Actually, that would be flat-out cruel, and would nominate myself for lifetime ban for such.

Yes, this grill is going to remind you some of the Goth grill. It's one handsome sucker!

    Husker,

This true? Too bad you sound like a creative guy the stooges would like to meet. Are you by Norwood's or deepest darkest Dallas?

    Enginetrics?

Is that like a engine electrical mechanic?

    UPDATE 8/20

We are having to switch metals for the screen. This has actually been a bit tricky. The metal needs to fill several criteria for this to be a good part:

    1. Must withstand considerable heat.
    2. Must be flexible so we can shape it.
    3. Must not change shape to a measurable degree under heat or cold.
    3. Must hold paint well.
    4. Must be rust resistant.

The one we were working with did #s 1 through 4 well; 5 not so well. Numbers 2 and 3 conflict a bit, because the metal thickness comes into question. The thicker the more durable, but the less flexible for the curvature of the piece. As for number 5, while I am not worried about a Ferrari staying wet for any length, we have to get this right so the part will look good in 20 years.

We have two alternatives in test right now - we are getting closer. Don't give up on me guys.

Another update: Looks like we have a metal solution - will likely be titanium or stainless. Both can rust, but much more resistant.

BTW, are these updates helpful, or just a constant reminder to everyone that the panel isn't done yet? I'm feeling pressure that this isn't completed yet because I know a lot of you are interested, but there's nothing that I personally can do right now to speed it up.

No worries Husker. We are with you in spirit. Update at your discretion, but don't worry too much about feeding our hunger for info.

I appreciate you guys' understanding. I am riding herd on this as much as I possibly can with the manufacturer without being an all-out pest. Today I got a little frustrated with it all but it's coming together. Most people don't move at the same pace as I do and that causes me a lot of grief. And I have to remember that this is a fair sized company and I am but a fly on an elephant in the queue with their other projects. What's frustrating is that they were supposed to ship this thing to me last week. Here we are a week later, and they're still working on it. What the heck????

This thing is driving me nutso.

I think titanium would be very expensive, it can be very tough to machine, are you using this as the screen?

Husker, I appreciate the updates, but don't put any extra pressure on yourself, since it won't help. A couple folks might get impatient, but do what you have to do to get it right, especially considering your investment in $ and time in the project :)

Too bad you are so far from him. He does some amazing ferrari tricks that a tinkerer would love to see. There are guys her on Fchat driving his creations such as a successful driveable 348 turbo that does not blow up.

Yes. It happened 2 weeks ago near the NC Outer Banks. :( DrS noticed it when we were fueling up for a 200 mile drive, and I'm 100% certain it wasn't cracked a few days earlier when I left home.

I'm a big Robert Rodgers fan. He did the 30K on my current 348 and the job he did would have impressed the queen mother. The car has been as dependable as my Lexus since he did it. No "check engine" lights, no leaks, no nothing. Just runs.

    Robert's the best.
