I think it was the condition of the roads that we drove. There were some very rough (not potholes... but real bumpy) roads that we took in some rural areas. That's the only thing I can think of...

The grill is pretty soft and flexible, but I suspect that particular location just gave up the ghost. No biggie. Its a 18 year old Ferrari 348 -- I'd say "par for the course" for the crap build-quality of these cars coachwork.

Ive been driving over CRAPPY/BUMPY roads for the last 3 years in my 348 and I have been very lucky to have a cracked rear grill like this.:eek:

I hope mine dont crack. I guess, it will then be time for a Husker grill. :p:p

I am almost embarrassed to keep posting about this, but anyway...

We have found the proper metal piece for our panel that will provide the durability that is necessary for this to be a Ferrari-worthy part. I expect this to be mounted on my car by September the 10th at the latest. Of course, I originally had July 15th as my goal, but I'm obviously going to miss this and I apologize for it. I know you guys are being patient. Right now I'm beyond patient - I'm pissed. Be that as it may, I am GOING to see this project through and it is going to happen.

    Stay tuned.

I think most here are happy to be patient and have you get it right, even though we're all eager to see the final result. I wouldn't worry if there are a few who may be critical... do what you have to do and don't worry about it! :)

    UPDATE:

I delivered an ultimatum today. Read below and tell me if it's rude. If I don't have the completed proto on my car by Sep. 12th, I'm scratching this and finding another maker. This manufacturing company is first class and I checked them out thoroughly, but I think this is such a small run it keeps getting pushed to the bottom. Anyway here was my email to them this a.m.

_________, I know that you must be extremely busy with a multitude of projects, but if we can't get going on this part I would like to move on and figure something else out. I just realized that we are nearing 3 months since I mailed the piece to you. I think that should be sufficient time to get something developed.

Part of my situation is that my credibility with potential buyers is somewhat at risk - I informed a number of them that I would likely have something to offer by the first of August.

What I would propose is that, if don't think you can have something in my hands by September 12th to fit, I would appreciate it if you could just send me the proto type panel and taillights back so that I can get moving in another direction.

I hope that you are not offended with this, but I feel that we have given this plenty of time to materialize. Just let me know your thoughts.

Perfect Husker, very well put. Gives a end point that will provide an outcome one way or the other. Excellent.

Hang in there buddy, I don't need one of these as i have a 355 but I am just as interested to see this project break ground.

Would it be worth a couple hundred bucks and time to fly out there and see what's going on? I'm sure you work for a living. I was just thinking that you'd get better service if you show up there. I know in dealing with suppliers in automotive and aerospace industries that is the case.

Or have them photo what they have done so far. Maybe they haven't even started it yet. It's been known to happen.

I also don't have a 348 but I'm really interested in your project. Good luck.

Within a few hours of my "ultimatum" email, I got this from the manufacturer:

    Collin,

You have been great and I understand your frustration as it is very consistent with my own. I appreciate your patience, and I respect the deadline. This thing has taken entirely too long, as I think we under-estimated a few things. However, the metal has arrived and we are experimenting with a couple different methods of mounting this so it looks clean and straight. The metal as it arrived has a few waves, and possible will need some bracing which we did not anticipate. The solution in the future will be to change the gauge to make it stiffer. All of this aside, I will get you a part as quickly as I can and I am confident we can do this before your deadline.

    My sincere apologies,

    Jimmy

Good job, Husker. By the way, as you know, my interest in your project is not merely academic, as some others in this post cheering you on! (...and I have lots of patience).

Guys, I'm officially starting over on finding a manufacturer. The panel was supposed to be shipped to me this week, and now the guy isn't returning my emails. If I'm lucky, I will get back my prototype panel and taillights. I'm totally bummed. Cross your fingers that I can at least get this stuff back. I don't know what happened with this guy - he decided not to do it, got in over his head, wasn't a priority - whatever. I think he misled me big time and it's time to move on. I'll be honest my passion for this has been dampened because I invested so much time, only for some guy to string me along for 4 FREAKING MONTHS NOW. Sheez.
