I am having a mobile window tinting company come to my house tomorrow to replace the tint on my rear window because it has a few crease "bubbles" around the acute bend and I was checking out what he has to do to remove it (there is no other way to tint it) and I noticed that the rear window is not glass.. so I am asking the ones in the know... is this OEM or has is been replaced.. also noticed that this is the only pane of glass that does not have the Ferrari logo on it.
    thanks in advance

I have seen a 348 one with a 'glasslike' crack on it so I will assume the 355 one should be glass also ...... anyone?

I had my rear window tinted while in the car, it can be done without removing the rear window. :):)

Not too sure about the rear plexi glass window. But.....I have a feeling that all 355's came with glass from the factory. Someone would have replaced that somewhere along the line. :):)

thats what I was thinking Pap.. that it was replaced at one point in its life- but according to the guy who tints (and I can see his point) is that there is no way to fit hands nor the plastic squeegie back there.. but we'll see tomorrow if he actually does remove it. I am thinking though, that if it is supposed to be glass- not plexi or lexan, I want to put the correct material in there.. hmm.. if anyone can check there car- by knocking with the back of your hand (you can tell) I would appreciate it.

    Yeah cool man. :):)

I had mine done when I bought my car. The guy who did it said it was his 1st Ferrari and thought he had to remove the rear window, but never actually did when the time came to do it. :):)

And.....he did a GREAT job too. No bubbles etc...anywhere that I can see. :):)

My back window is glass....I can't imagine any US bound cars coming into the states with Lexan or Plexiglass--the Feds would of never approved it...

Mine is Lexan, but I have no idea if it's original or not.

Hell, the rest of the car isn't...!

My back window (98 355) is glass also. Likewise, the first few shops I took it to for tinting just plain wouldn't tint the back window, saying just what you said "can't get to the back corners". Finally found a place to do it, and yes, they did actually remove the window and tint it on the bench. I couldn't bear to be there while they worked on it because I know how expensive the window is to replace. Honestly, I think if they knew how much to replace, I don't think they would have agreed to do the tint. Now that it's done, and no glass or other components broken, I'm glad I had it done.

IF you can find a place to tint the window without removing it, like PAP did, go for it. Otherwise, you may have to bite the bullet and let 'em remove the window. Also, if you are indeed going to convert back to glass, I would definitely tint BEFORE the install, to save yourself a repeat of this dilemma.

    Good luck,

    John

Thanks for all the responses. The glass got removed and the window got retinted. there was a wire inside the cabin for a rear defogger that obviously never got connected. I also researched a little online and see several Ferrari replacement companies selling both the Lexan and Glass replacements- I guess someone at some point in my cars life- had the rear glass replaced with the lexan (more cost effective) than with the glass with defogger lines.. The window tinter said that it will eventually begin to bubble again due to gasses inside the lexan coupled with the temperatures from the engine.. but at least for now its bubble free.

IT is supposed to be glass. I may have a line on some glass so hold onto the plastic if you want to swap. I'd be racing and lexan is like gold to us.
