I've got one that I think has not come up before. The car has a relatively loud whistle sound when going through the gears and at constant speed. the sound subsides at idle.
It is very annoying. I might think that it is a vacum hose off somewhere, however the car runs great. There is no bog or miss whatsoever.
The car is stock with a Tubi.

    any ideas?

Is it a whine as in gearnoise or a whistle as in air noise?? I have heard loose timing belts make a whine when cold on non-f-cars. Though I have yet to hear it in an f-car.

Bypass valve will whistle sometimes also. Is all the time or up in the rpm range when the valve opens..

It is not a gear whine. It is a whiste sound. Sometimes it goes away for a couple of minutes. The bypass valve was replaced last year. I think that it is still ok.
    Any other thoughts?

Sometimes you get that when cold exhaust pipes have not warmed up and sealed because the old exhaust donuts between some pipes are old and leaking. You can buy them at the local muffler shop for about 3 bucks each.

The whistle is similar to the startup air pump. It does not seem to rise and fall with with RPM's. It is more constant and goes away at idle. It is not present with a cold engine. It begins after a couple of miles.
Is there any way to check the exhaust donut option? It makes sense except for not making the noise cold.
    Any additional thoughts?
    Thanks all

On my STi my snow tires make some strange resonant noises at certain speeds...any chance it's tire related?

Air hose leaking most probably, (front of engine)change it. Mine the same but no real harm

Air Hose? What exactly do you mean by air hose?

It is definitely not tire related

Speeder, also check that your idle control motor is properly seated in the Y pipe just after the mass air flow sensor. Mine had come loose and made a giant sucking/whistling sound...I immediately drove home (only a few blocks away) and corrected it (loose mounting bolt for idle control motor).

It is nothing to worry about and is only the fuel injection. Happens on cold starts.

    Enjoy the car!
