Well calling the Revell kit highly accurate is something that I wouldn't do after working on it for a bit. I haven't been working very fast with class and work taking up most of the summer but I was able to do some body work and rewrite the assembly instructions to hopefully make the car come out a bit better.

I ended up chopping the front suspension bits in half so that I could install the underside of the nose of the car and get rid of the huge gaps that would have been present if I assembled it the way the kit wanted it done. Those bits will be covered with the included CF decals on the arms and some SMS CF decals on the wheel hubs. Unfortunately the included CF decals don't cover the entire part of the arm just the top and bottom part of it which is a bit annoying but hopefully no one will be looking too incredibly closely at the sides of the arms and notice that it's just cleared over matte black since I don't want to waste more SMS CF sheets on them with my student budget.

At the rear of the car in every photo I see from 07' there is a fin on the back part that Revell has left off and this is my attempt to add a scratch built part to make up for it. It will be interesting to see how it looks once I spray some primer over it and it shows off all the flaws.

Hopefully this weekend I can get to the hobby store for some more paint and make some more progress on the model.

Alright I need some opinions should I try and stick with the Monaco GP version of the car or should I just go for a generic version with wheel covers tobacco decals and the front fins?

I personally love the wheel covers....and don't care about the Marlboro-decals.
But if I'm right the Revell kit has no Barcodes? right?

foto from Bahrain showing rear suspension....and the "fin"

Nope the Revell kit doesn't come with barcodes, but I bought a decal set off Ebay that comes with Marlboro and barcode decals.

Yesterday I did some research to find out which GP version I will build.

The engine cover has many ventilation louvres which would be difficult to modifiy.
In my opinion the revell kit can be used directly to build only one version: 1st GP Australia

the first foto shows 1st GP Australia: pretty much the louvres like in the kit.

the second foto shows 2nd GP Malaysia: there are additional louvres under this aerodynamic device on the left side (not on right side). These louvres appear in all following races in different shapes.

the third foto shows the 4th GP Spain: there are even more louvres beneath the black exhaust area...

These louvres are difficult to reproduce so I will go for the Version of GP Australia.....

    regards, Till.

That was one of the biggest things I was disappointed about. It has three different versions listed in the instructions none of with the kit is actually correct for.

    Yes, this is disappointing...

To build a correct version one has to compare many many pictures. And this drives me crazy: With most photos comes the GP they were taken at. But it is not specified if the foto is from training, qualifying or race. There are always small differences and at some point you have to say stop and start building. Best example are the ventilation scoops in front of the cockpit: In training they are mostly closed, but opened for raceday. (Is it allowed to change that from qualifying to race???)

I'm currently working on the louvres: I cut and sand them thinner.

    News about your buildup process?

    Till.

I've ran out of primer need to go to the hobby store and get some more as well as order the clear red that I'm going to need.

A bit more slow progress, I've finished as much as I'd like on filling all the little bits on the body and have sprayed a few coats of primer on it which I'll let dry for a couple days. Also finished the under tray as well as the rear suspension bits. The engine isn't detailed at all since it won't ever be seen. Now I just have to convince myself to hunker down and get back to work on the 20 or so CF decals for the front suspension.

Looks good, you gonna sand the tires down a little and get some of the gloss off?
What did you use for the carbon fiber, or is it a decal?

I'll see how it looks when it's finished if I want to take some sand paper to the tyres. The CF on the suspension arms are decals that came with the kit actually, the CF over the hubs is from SMS.

Try some laquer thinner on a rag [partially evaporated] and that will dull the rubber just enough.

The store never sent my order for the clear red so I have tons of gold painted car parts that are waiting for clear red paint I'll try and get some pix up later tonight.

Honestly the picture really doesn't do it justice, it's got a great sparkle that you an se through the clear red.
