I appreciate input from anyones personal experience.
I have my own ideas .I take my flying very seriously (being its so unforgiving)

Hey they say the only stupid question is the one you DONT ask!!

    Thanks in advance!!

    What does your question mean?

Are you asking what qualities should you look for in a good co-pilot?

I would say some one who is not afraid to take the controls when he needs to and will tell you when he sees something wrong. And also maybe some one that can give pointers/suggestions as well. that would mean an instrument pilot as well, but nothing better than you both being one the same page.

OK yea that gives me an idea.... instrument rated would be a good plus.
Someone very comfitorable w/ right seat flying as I get used to it.

safety pilot as in a pilot who will watch out for VFR traffic while your under the hood, correct? or just a buddy in general? Either way like you said the person would need to feel comparable in the right seat. but with a buddy especially when your both pilots, the clear distinction of who is the PIC and what each will do in an emergency should be discussed and understood before takeoff. Nothing would be worse than the "I though you were going to do that...", and just because the other person is acting PIC at the time, there should be no reason why the other person shouldn't voice his concerns during the flight if he has any. well thats what have always been instructed to do.

THIS IS HOW I DO IT EVEN W/ ANY OF MY INSTRUCTORS.
Yes and flying the right seat 1st time the other day I realized on final the fact that "the right hand pushing and left pulling" is reversed ,(being throttle and yoke).(Not the time for motor memery to kick in....)
