Art Z told me himself I think Ferrari did not build the F50GT but farmed it out to their local Modena hot rod shop
I know a little info on these cars. I have worked extensively with #001 and also put a few wrenches on #003. I also viewed all 3 at the factory prior to any being delivered, when I was there for training in March 1997. The F50 GT project was a collaberation between Ferrari and Dallara, just like the 333SP project. Only difference is the F50 GT is more Ferrari and less Dallara. Adam
I thought the story was that ferrari said they'd build 1 and then built another, then another and someone (Art?) sued Ferrari for going back on their word and the remaining tubs had to be destroyed (IIRC 3 were destroyed)
#001 was originally slated for delivery to Brunai, #002 A. Zafiropoulo, USA, #003 Okamoto, Japan. The Sultan didn't take delivery of #001, so it went to A. Zafiropoulo, CA. USA. #002 went to Japan. #003 stayed at the factory until it was surprisingly delivered in (I think it was '99) to J. Spiro LA. USA. The tubs are (based) off of the production F50 tub. People that sue Ferrari usually don't end up owning Ferrari dealerships. Adam
If i remember correctly 5 tubs were made. Three were built. No 3 went down under stayed there for a year, owned by a local celeb I cant remember his name, then it went to UK and was sold. Now it seems like its back on the market. Didn't Art buy No 4 and 5 tubs for spare parts? I know the mould were destroyed by court order after No5
The tubs are (based) off of the F50 production tubs GT tubs are suppose to be (lighter). #'s are stamped on a alloy plate fitted to the tubs. I won't say say what owner's have or don't have concerning spares. Adam
Based on driving impressions alone, I know Van Overbeek, Bell and especially Theys, who has alot of seat time in #001 and countless hours in 333's would disagree with you. What if you could have purchased one for close to what Ferrari was selling the 333sp package for in '97 ??? Adam
I think the price is a changing point for alot of people. You can drive a 333sp it seems like theres many more parts out there for them. Many more cars as well. A F50GT however is I would think more expensive to run and if something happened to the car on the track it woul almost be unreplacable while a 333sp is. Maybe Im mistaken I dont know a whole lot about either of these cars but I think if you want to go and drive a car at its limits buy a 333SP IMO. I would have to pick a F50GT if they were the same price you would be stupid to pick a 333sp.
Well one of the f50gt's has been fixed, I think 2 times Ferrari will rebuild them since there so rare. Must have $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ and lots of it. You can maybe get 2 or 3 333sp's for the price of the F50gt if one ever goes up for sale again.
Hey guys, Just incase you guys are wondering, Light Auto in Japan are currently selling the f50 gt car no.3 at the moment. I went and had a look at it while i was there. Also test drove the maserati mc12 on the streets from them. Hope that helps anyone. cheers, Kasa
Coming to the party late as I just saw the thread. GOOD GAWD that car is beyond words! Wonder if the seller would take a high mileage 360 and one HUGEASS IOU? Oh man, if that was only mine..................
is this the only one with the "base" 750hp motor.Because I have heard that chassis 001 wasnt the only modded one.
This is the first time I've seen this thread too.....by far my FAVORITE Ferrari ever. It's perfect, as far as I'm concerned. kasa, If you took any pics while you were there today, you MUST share What a great time to win the lottery.
I think there is an ad out there for #003, but not sure if it's really for sale or not. Beautiful car. I want that and an F40 LM.
Im at work right now but will try and post some pics tonight when i get home. Only problem is i only have dial up at home so might be a problem. The car isnt advertised on their website - www.lightauto1.co.jp but it is for sale. They have the F50 next to the F50GT at the moment.
Might be correct... take a look at this 993 Carrera S ad - http://www.wintel.co.jp/wintel/owa/pspe_stock_detail1?in_categorize=0&in_group_id=&in_shopno=638-1&in_carno=10&in_mode=stocklist&in_designno=&in_cssno=&in_shop_disp=0 Look at the last picture. I think that is the F50 GT scoop I see in the background... There is also a green McLaren in the background of one of the pictures in the black Lambo LP400S ad
